The weather was pretty warm this past weekend so the whole family came up to the cabin for one last hurrah before deer season get serious. I moved a ton of firewood this weekend and the place is ready for winter. I managed to sit on Saturday night and I had a lone doe come through at 25yrds, I am comfortable with the distance but when I stopped her she stopped with her vitals right in front of a 3" sapling. I had to let her walk as it was pretty thick and I didn't have another shot opportunity.

When I was stacking firewood I spotted movement out of the corner of my eye, a flock of turkeys was walking out of the woods and into the corn about 75yrds away. I managed to run back to the cabin, grab my bow and put a stalk on them. I was able to get within 20 yrds and shot my first archery turkey.

Congrats to everyone so far with a deer on the ground, we are looking really good right now. I am hoping to do my part in the coming weeks.

Congrats on the turkey. That is one of my goals this year. Well I don’t know if it was a smart move but I had to switch a guy on call week so I can have shotgun season off. So next week I am on call again. Hopefully I can get out soon to smack a big old nanny.

Thanks guys. It looks like I'm done contributing to the scoring, so that aspect has been fun.

LittleChief, can I just say you are doing an awesome job keeping the contest interesting this year. In years past there have been times when weeks would go bye before the scores were updated. Thanks for staying on top of it

I appreciate that. Thanks! Still, it remains to be seen how I handle it during the rut.

@JoshKeller - Hope you saw the messages. Score that point as a G1 and the H1 measurement should be just above the burr, which is gonna be one heck of an H1 measurement.

Yessir that added over 5 inches to the score. thank god this is a gross tournament, because he nets all of about 28":lol::bow:

I came up with 130". I didnt think it was close to that at first, but after that first mass and the brow tine, Im starting to think I did it right.

Does this look reasonable/correct? 130 2/8" 23.75 inches on just the brow and first mass measurement :woot:

And for context, I have a way of making things around me seem small

I shot a buck like that about 7 years ago. Crazy palmated main beams and he broke one off half way up. The unbroken side has some crazy points, I am pretty confident I will not shoot another buck in my lifetime with more character.
