Parade of deer just visited. 4 momma's and 6 kids. All in a line about 40 yards out. No shot (I don't like to take mom's with kids anyways)

I live by this.....if you see a mom with nubbins you shoot the mom. The nubbins will always stay in the area because there will not be inbreeding occurring. It has worked for years on my small property.

I'm gonna try and sneak out of work this afternoon a little early and head to the stand if the wind will allow it. I haven't been able to hunt the last three evenings with the wind cranking like its been doing. I felt like I was in Kansas last evening.

I agree with @dbl lung on shooting the mother doe with the button buck. I have two sets of twins on my place that has a button buck as one of the fawns and I plan on taking the mother doe as both mothers are around 8 years old.

I have never heard this logic.

So generally speaking I try not to shoot a doe that has a fawn/yearling with her - I just don't enjoy doing it. But ya all are saying you kinda live by that motto as well UNLESS a mom has a button buck with her and you take mom out. The logic being - that the button buck will always stick around to the property after that. But if you didn't take the mom out the buck will relocate to another property because of inbreeding?

    Very interesting - I don't think I've ever heard this. I'm intrigued.

Up here I can get 6 doe a year and always tag out. I'm not 10ply I just don't shoot mom's. The winter is tough and plenty of solo doe.

I hope the weather forecast holds true for the weekend of the 17h. Showing a cold front and I scheduled a four day weekend right in the middle of it.

Well between 5:45 and 6:45, the neighbor decided to go through about a 1000 rounds of ammo. Saw one fawn and one nice doe whom were both hauling ass. The doe did stop briefly and almost gave me a shot but just couldn't get on her before they took off again. Not a very good night.

I played peak a boo with a good doe for 20 mins then she left. And little while longer I got ninja'ed by a good doe. I'm seeing them and it's only a matter of time. I will be out in the morning but I have a install tomorrow night.
