Back in the stand, got to leave family fun event a little early. No more than getting set up I almost had a chance at a doe, she just wouldn’t clear the Cedar branches I some how missed to clear. Oh well, I’m between the pond and food, fingers crossed.

I get the bonehead of the day award, I let an arrow fly. Had 2 doe come in, drew in the second, a third was with them I didn’t see, I think she saw me draw and stomped. Deer I was drawn on stopped damn perfectly behind a V tree. I let my bow down and about 3/8” left down I popped the trigger...arrow plunks about 10 yards just staring at my failure. Got another arrow but by then they had me pegged.
I’m calling it a day, the three of them had a yelling fest as they walked off.

Actually, I’m going to stand by my Jeep until dark, for some reason they like to feed where I park.

Wow, I missed a lot while elk hunting this weekend. Congrats on the buck, bear, and the other killers!
My only action was Saturday morning, a rag horn 5 point came in quietly to my cow calls. I was prospecting, hoping to get a response to my calls, and was standing in a spot with little cover.
I know better than that...well, apparently not!
The bull happened to be close already and popped out of some thick stuff about 80 yards from me. He never saw me, but knew he should be able to see the “elk” he’d just heard, so no way I was getting him any closer.
Elk tag will now sit until late muzzleloader in December.
Here’s a parting picture to my 2020 archery elk season.

I also heard small grunts yesterday but thought, "naaaw". moments later a small, ugly racked buck comes out from where the grunt came from. Pretty cool.

    I didn't see a thing this afternoon.

I heard a lot of commotion upwind in the cut-over behind me and then shortly after that the idiot doe I call Monica started blowing for no reason.

I'd love a chance to kill that doe but I don't think it's possible. She starts blowing before she ever comes into view whether she's upwind, downwind or to the side. She's mental.

I walked back to the house, changed, and just for kicks I grabbed the thermal imager out of my hunting closet and scanned the woods behind the house. Four deer feeding approximately 90 yards from the house.

I just can seem to win here at home. I've passed on quite a few does, but it seems like every time I decide to shoot one and post my intentions on here, they are no-shows. I'm thinking the local deer have hacked my account.

The property behind my house has a doe like that. Last year, I was going to walk in on a South wind. From my back yard I entered from the North, so wind in my face. I wasn’t even off of the back porch and she lit up. One that blows and blows but doesn’t go anywhere. No, I didn’t kill her and now I don’t have permission back there

I'd sure like to kill this one. I'd be willing to sit there during gun season and burn my one gun tag to take her out. I'd get my 7mm sighted in and wait for her to give her position away.

Figure out exactly where she beds and then have someone else kill her. She knows your scent in the woods now.
