What is the typical height for a tree stand? From watching hunting shows it looks like they are pretty high up. Is it because the view of the camera makes it look that way or are they really up that high.

I set mine in the 12ft to 16 ft range any higher and I find close up shot angles are to iffy,I hear of guys going 20plus I don't know how you can get threw all the branches and how the wind doesn't blow you all over from those hights(my areas any way)

I've always gone about 12 ft max with the shotgun, so I figure I'll do the same when I start bowhunting next season.

This was covered a few months ago, here. We were surprised to find that treestand heights vary, greatly. We had 'em everywhere from 6' to someone being so high he needed oxygen (and a home-made space suit). One small climb for a man. One giant leap for sleeping bags.

This seems like the 4th time this thread has been brought up here in the last couple months!

Oh well, new dude has the right for everyone's input regardless.

I feel comfortable anywhere from 16-22'.

15 to 25 feet depends on the cover and what else is around. The higher the better in my opinion. Most of the time I'm 20'

I'll hunt anywhere from 6' - 22' or so.. depends on a load of factors.

Let me also just point out.. most the time those dudes on tv are not as high as they look.. the camera angle adds a good 5-8 feet.

Ever watch a guy shoot a buck that appears to be 60 yards away.. only to find out it was really 20? Same thing.

I don't feel comfortable at less than 16-18. The terrain has forced me to be as high as 30-35. On flat ground, I find that the surrounding trees and visibilty keeps me around 20-22.

I always feel that deer sense movement way better than i expect... i feel comfortable at 25'-35' .. this is purely technique. I can make subtle movements without spooking deer.

From 0 ft to about 22 ft. All depends on my surroundings, cover, and direction of deer movement.

I climb to 20' and my ladders are at 17'. never been busted for smell, but movement does catch their eye if they're at a distance.

10-15 feet is my usual height. I have gone 20 feet before, but it was in a pine grove and I needed to get high to see down into the woods and all the pines were pretty bare up to the top.

Holy crap people....30+ feet? Ours is somewhere around 17, or 20. I don't feel safe hunting in ANYTHING higher than 23 feet. Make sure you think about getting down in the dark, etc.

I like to be 18-20 feet. From having hunted with a climber for hundreds of hunts and having seen how the deer react where I hunt, I know being higher is better. Give me a little background cover and 18-20 feet high and I get away with a lot more movement than if I were even 5 feet lower.

Plus getting 30+ feet high starts really messing with your shot angles, and more specifically with your ability to double lung a deer.

0 to 20 for me. Start getting higher than 20 I feel like I'm going to pee myself.
