Rage hypodermics+p are hard to find around here. I have 5. But I like to have at least 8. Can't seem to find replacement blades either. Fixed heads are not as hard to find. So I am thinking of buying a pack. For back up. What you guys recomend? shooting 61# at 26.6" draw . arrow at 390 gr. thinking standard slick tricks..they have done well for me in the past with different set ups.
i ran into this with magnus heads, couldnt find what I wanted because they were behind in manufacturing due to lockdown
I used to shoot them sometimes years ago. Just the standard..they flew like darts. and killed well. i see if I can find some
I have shot Slick Tricks in the past with good results. I am trying Magnus Stingers and Zwickey No Mercy this year as well. My only complaint with Slick Tricks is that the blades are thin and tend to chip if you hit bone, but they will get the job done.
Depends what you hunt too. I have small deer in South Florida and monster boar hogs. They contrast greatly is bone density and variations how I hunt them. For deer I use a basic 400 spine arrow on a 70 pound bow,27 draw, with a Wasp Boss 4 blade 100 grain. Total is 358 grains. They fly outrageously awesome to any distance I can shoot. Well tuned bow ofcourse. For big boar hogs, I’ve moved to a FMJ 340 spine with a COC 150 mostly or 175 grain head. I had to cut them longer than the 400 spine to get them to paper tune right. They drop quick past 30 yards but mostly very minute 30 and in. From elevation, they hit well with my pins. What they do accomplish however is far far far more penetration than my IBO type arrows and I’m crushing those harder to kill 200+ pound boar hogs with thick shields. In fact, I’m crushing shoulders to access directly to the heart and severing it harshly. I’m a fan of fixed heads. Being a bow hunter since 1970, I’ve seen all the latest and greatest. Fixed heads, well placed heart shots, make it all happen. Mechanicals on angled shots I’m not a fan of therefore I stay away. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I've bought a few different brands of fixed blades this year. They have all been in stock and easy to find. Magnus stinger buzzcut, the Black hornet serazors, Grizzly single bevel, and Jager double bevel. They all group beautifully. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
what do "I" recommend ?? ... Slick Trick Mags, Wac'em 4 Blade, Striker X 4 Blade (all 100 gr) ...... I am moving away from Mech's, and I still have a dozen + mixed Rocket Steelheads, Sidewinders and Steelhead XL's left .. I will use them from time to time, but prefer Fixed heads ....when your bow is tuned and fixed/FP's have same POI, why shoot a mech. ? .. Fixed are stronger and can be just as accurate ....
Just VA deer, a little bigger than Fla deer. But not by much. I have muzzy and slicks in the past with 70+ lbs as well as Rage Extreme, and regular 2" 2 blades...never had an issue with pass thrus...but now I dropped to 61 and up my arrow weight to 390gr\...I do have a short 26.5" draw. that's the only that concerns me about the rage this year....even with the smaller cut of 1.5"
Yes this is true...however, I have always had much much better blood trails with mech heads. and there have been times that they saved me because I made a less than desirable shot... and they have also hurt me on less desirable shots, (scapula) shot...it's 50/50 for me
61 pounds is nothing to sneeze @. Virginia ? So you got bear too. This is just my opinion. Do as you please. With the 26.5 draw, 61 pounds, I’d move instantly to a Cut on contact head, like a German Kinetic Silver Flame, lengthen my arrow length to around 28.5 to grant room on the shelf for razor finger pinch. Up my spine to a 340 Easton FMJ in 5mm. It should spine out close and bareshaft/paper tune fletched. You will be in the 490 total grains with a 100 grain head, higher as your head weight increases along with FOC. I’d go a bit heavier than 100 grain head. You will decimate deer, and bear alike. I ain't shooting bear. we have some in the area but I have no interest in killing one. I am certainly going to look at heavier arrows next year. I have killed many deer with much lighter arrows but that was shooting 70+ pounds. I would like to be in the 425-450 ish range next year and maybe go back to 70 lbs
I have about 3 dozen solids, maybe two dozen iron will, a dozen or so viper tricks, a dozen day six evo, probably 50 raptor tricks and dozen or so sevr. Hopefully I get through the season
Consciously absent are German Kinetics ? But you have an excellent and well organized array of heads. Do you use differing weighted heads or use the same ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Mike, when marcus first started making GK i jumped in with both feet and bought a bunch. I the course of week I killed bear and two deer with them. Poor, and very poor blood trails with good killing shots, and one bent ferrule...on a soft double lung shot. I got sour on them and sold em. That said I am not high on any two bladed fixed heads that dont have bleeders. Just my own preference.
