Nope, no more earn a buck, at least where I’m at. Right now I do have the option of 8 antlerless tags...I’m hoping I can use at least a couple to restock the freezer
Its all about lots of practice and giving them opportunity. I started Sarge at 6 weeks old on puppy liver drags. Dogs love to hunt, just gonna take lots of obedience and line work!
What are your guys' thoughts on morning vs evening hunts in the early season? Sent from my moto g(7) play using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I'll only hunt in the mornings if I can key in on a bedding area, or it's unusually cold for the early season. Though mostly, I'll only hunt a few afternoons the first 3 weeks. I usually get serious October 25th and on.
Shot a 150”+ 8pt at 8am on Columbus Day 4 years ago. A 160”+ last year at 7:45 in the morning. I don’t care what time it is, you can’t kill’em if you’re not out there.
If you have the land size to hunt without putting too much pressure, then hunt whenever you can. I hunt some big 30k acre public spots and I'll burn a spot and move. They arent the best spots but being aggressive and hunting a lot helps. Now I understand if someone only has a 10 acre spot to hunt and needs to be smart about the amount of pressure they apply.
Well I was able to get out of work a little early and made the 2 hour drive to our property to get in a short hunt tonight. I’ll keep you guys updated if anything comes through!
I'm planning to go out tomorrow. Haven't decided between morning or evening or both. Sent from my moto g(7) play using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Early season in NY is always better in the evenings but if you have an opportunity to get out on a chilly morning do it... watch that pressure tho...! It could ruin an evening hunt with morning pressure... Speaking of pressure i always watch the weather for my hunts if the pressure is landing just right ill go out during the mid to late season... always had the best luck... if the pressure system reads 30.0 and above movement is going to be good... 30.20 to 30.40 is to believed the sweet spot for barometric pressure for deer and it is to be proven on many different occasions... Nothing seen or heard tonight, but it felt great just getting back in the woods! Checked the cameras and there really wasn’t much on them which is a little disappointing. I’ll be heading back out there tomorrow and will update with anything good.
Damn. I've spent SOO many hours in a tree stand over the past 35 years I've lost track of the when_what_when n where. Every time I think I have had a weather pattern fingered out, Bam, goes to chit!. Hunt when you can. But NOTHING is as golden as a cold/calm November morning .! Year in year out.
In the stand now. Nothing so far but there's still a couple hours of light left Sent from my moto g(7) play using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
