Like I said before, I got on stand at 5:30. I had left all my gear in the tree, so I climbed up with no light, as usual, got set up and was covered up in deer immediately. A few minutes before legal light I heard something over my left shoulder. I knew it was a deer but couldn't make it out. After a few minutes of me staring trying to see it it finally moved and I could see it’s basic shape and it was only 15 yards away. It just stood there. Finally it started walking by at 10 yards. I still couldn't see what it was but it was big bodied. It stopped with a small leafy limb between us so I slowly raised my binoculars and could make out the antlers. It was him. The big boy from last year that I’ve posted pics of. He's bigger now and with more mass. Now it was just a minute or two into legal light so I could barely make out what he was with my own eyes. He started slowly feeding so without taking my eyes off him I slowly lowered my binoculars, reached down, turned on the light on my sight, grabbed the bow, hooked on my release. He's there at 12 yards broadside sniffing where I walked in. I kept my eyes on that buck the entire time, so it wasn't until I raised the bow and started to draw that I noticed that I had never nocked an arrow. I tried to sit the bow down and get an arrow out of my quiver but it was hopeless. He bounced out to about 30 yards, stood there for a while and then walked away. I feel sick.
I never actually laid eyes on him last season. I just had him on camera. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I was talking to a buddy yesterday about my deer adventures this year and just asking some opinions about some locations. So I guess it lit a fire under him because he decided to hunt last night. We were texting back and forth while we were both on stand. Well he went silent and didnt hear from him until I woke this morning. He had only one deer come in last night and he shot it. 152" clean 1 0 pt. Unbelievable! The guy also just had his complete ankle rebuilt only 4 weeks ago and is still getting after it! I will see if he will let me post a pic.
I did this to my Hawk Heliums earlier this summer. The improvement is well worth the effort and money.
If he walked off slowly, you didn't spook him too bad. So there's that. I doubt he has been hunted much before, at least not in that spot.
Well, I am a saddle hunter, married 12 years with three kids, a lot closer to 40 than 20. If you count Sunday as being the start of the week, I have gotten lucky four times and its Thursday. So...
The one thing I’m not sure about is did he see me or did he just spook at my walk in trail. If he saw me I should most likely change trees. Ill have to think about this.
That is heart breaking LC!! Damn man. At least you know you’re in the right area. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Short version of yesterday pm. Climbed a very tall mtn (gained about 1500'),for into some nice cold daek timber, found elk tracks but no elk. Fresh bear activity. Ended up side hilling many miles back to the car. Met some buddies last night for dinner. This morning, coffee, grub, poop and climbed a mtn. The deeper in getting the better its looking. Fingers crossed.
