Well boys, it looks like my "once in a lifetime" elk hunt will have to wait until next year. Todd and I had his RV and trailer loaded to the gills and were 7 hours into the drive to CO when the call came in. An elk hunter from TX came to camp not feeling well last week, and infected just about everyone who was there. 6 of 9 people in camp have already tested positive, and 2 more left early due to not feeling well. I believe 1 guide tested positive and 3 others are feeling sick. So the entire operation is now shut down for 10 days while everyone quarantines and heals up. They gave us the option of coming in and doing it all on our own, but the truth is we're not prepared for that. So, we pulled the plug and rescheduled for next year. We were on the IA/NE border when this all went down - 7 hours from home with all of our hunting gear in the back. So what did we do? Made a few phone calls and now we're set up in South Central Nebraska, ready to start chasing whitetails for the next 4-5 days. It's no elk hunt, but it was the best would could do on short notice! Thankfully I have decent wifi here in camp so I can work during midday. We start hunting this afternoon, so wish us luck. If nothing else, it will be a hell of a story.
That absolutely sucks!!! but way to adapt and get on some deer! Good luck can't wait to see what you guys do out there!
Good luck with the hunt! Consider it a warm up for your public land challenge. Unless, you go ahead and hunt public now, in another state. Might make it a more interesting story.
No way to get around how much that sucks, but sounds like you guys are making the best of it. Bonus: no Covid exposure. Good luck!
Welcome! I look forward to seeing some footage/hunts in my home state. You should use your "we're famous because we have a hunting show" pull and contact Larry The Cable guy who owns a bunch of land in south, south east nebraska
Too bad about the elk trip. At least if you are “working” you can save your vacation days that you were maybe going to spend while chasing elk. Hell... it might even be a tax write off as long as you’re working. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Good luck on whitetail. At least you found out somewhat ahead of time. I bet they will treat you right next year.
Good to have Plan B. Was supposed to go the NW Nebraska with some guys for their firearm season. Surgery put it on the back burner for this year. Like the Cubs and the World Series...there's always next year.
Well, look at the bright side. At least you guys didn't get all the way out there and then wind up getting sick yourselves. Knock 'em dead in Nebraska!!! Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
Glad you were spared the exposure, it sucks...I'm dealing with it now and so far my case is pretty mild but it still sucks. Got tested yesterday so I should have an "official diagnosis" in a day or two. Damn stuff is super contagious for sure. I only shared a short ranger ride with the windows down with someone showing no symptoms and had symptoms myself in a couple days. He got sick that evening and got a positive test back the next Sat.
Sorry to hear it justin! That would kill me. But hopefully the dude who got the China Virus will be ok and you'll be in your deer stand soon!! Stay safe.
Hmmm, you know, I believe that jackflap was in CO last week and he's from Texas....... Just kidding. I hope your new hunt works out for you.
