So I dropped off my arrows at an archery shop to get refletched, well after about 15 shots they were coming off on one of the arrows. This has inspired me to looking into doing it myself but I am not sure where to start, how hard it is, and what to get. Any tips/suggestions?
Had the same experience, and was also tired of taking my arrows in every time id hit them practicing. I also like to replace them after I shoot a deer. I’ve heard the quick-fletch is very easy but never tried it. Here is a link to the Bitzenburger I got a few years ago. Works great and easy to use. https://www.lancasterarchery.com/bitzenburger-fletching-jig.html Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I second the bitzenburger jig. Clean the last 6” of the shaft with acetone where the vanes will be, use a Q-tip dipped in acetone to clean the vanes where the glue goes. It takes a little practice to know how much glue to use. You don’t need the primer pen, just a Q-tip with acetone. I’ve used gorrilla glue super glue, loctite gel, bohning blazer bond all with good results.
A basic setup could be a jig. I use the bitzenburger Some vanes (blazers work good for learning) Some glue And some acetone or denatured alcohol. Once you get into it and get a few down then you can mix and match colors schemes and try different vanes. It can become as detailed as you like. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I fletch dozens of arrows each year for two NASP teams. I tell the kids it's one of my favorite things to do...tells me they are grouping their arrows real close on the target. I get all my NASP components from Lancaster Archery Supply. I bought a fletching jig about 40 years ago. I'll go to LAS to get the name. Hang on. Here is the link. I had to play around with it to get the correct position each time. Made a sketch and marked the jig so I could position the arrow in the same place each time. BTW, I use the CA glue from Dollar Tree. https://www.lancasterarchery.com/grayling-fletching-jig.html
I picked up a jig from Bohning for around $40 and works just fine. It allows you to fletch straight or helical, and has attachments if you wanted to use 4 vanes instead of 3. the first few arrows might be crap but it takes time - i know i had to practice on a few before getting it down.
Its super easy and it makes you more involved with the crafy. Biggest debate is what glue to use ive used the shrink wrap blazer vanes for years and its no biggie to red fletch an arrow, just boil some water and you’re good to go Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
