We got out of the woods this evening after the afternoon sit, went to the store to get a couple beers before going out Coyote hunting. A guy was checking in a REAL big deer, I mean big, a nice buck that shed his rack! The guy was stoked at first, thought he shot a giant Doe, until he walked up on it! I tell ya this season FLEW by....
You bet their already shedding. When I shot my doe there was a buck 10 yards In front of me grunting, no bone on his head. He had to of been a 1.5 year old, not a very big bodied deer but definitely an adult.
All of the bucks I know of (3) behind my inlaws house have shed. While making yote calling sets, this weekend I saw a 5.5+, a 2.5, and another that's 2.5-3.5 that are all without headgear. Anyone know if a season of poor nutrition will cause them to drop early?
I think that the Bucks condition going into the Rut can affect it. Generally speaking the more active a Buck is during the Rut the faster his testosterone levels will drop and the quicker he will shed. That could also be affected by nutrition. Dan
i have heard things like this and what i have read the two biggest thinkg are nutrition and believe it or not genetics to the deer
