I saw 3.5+ year old bucks on November 5th, 7th, and 9th this year. That time frame around where I hunt seems to be the peak days in which I see big buck daytime movement.
Duke, could you explain this more in detail? Did your predictions about the rut based on the moon phase and this particular year bare any truth? Thanks for any information.
Any 3 days the last week of Oct thru the 1st 2 weeks of november that have below normal temps rather than above normal.
same here...moon rise vs sun rise along with phase is how I base my days off. I hunt primarily mornings...and I want it to have been very dark most of the night to produce a good morning hunt. In 2009, New moon started Nov 14, along with moon rise coming after daylight on Nov 16. I chose Nov 16, 17, 18 this year as my best 3 days...and even though very rainy and wet - I believe it was peak activity around our property. On average - my 3 days would fall around 13th-15th. ...of course this year I bagged my buck on Dec 20th...go figure...
Same here! There are definite moon times I like to hunt and those that are usually unproductive. A lot of things play into great hunting including weather, moon phase, and rut timing. Normally anytime around Nov. 15th is good one way or the other if moon and weather cooperate. I picked my week to hunt NE. the last 2 years based on the moon alone and hoped for the weather I needed. I was Lucky and got it both years and was able to tag a 140 class 4X4 Mulie both years. Dan
