Im taking my boys on our annual once a year dove hunt on Sept 5. I can't hit em, but I have trying. So anyone going?
not this year, didnt get drawn .... could try for stand by, but I hate to use a single vacation day and still not make it in .... I'll pass this year .... did get out for opener squirrel .. saw one, got one... way to hot and humid that AM ....
Thing is you get shots and it only takes getting one to say at least I don't suck as much as you can't hit **** hacks that you are hunting with.
Dove and quail along with wood duck, teal and grouse some of the best eating wild fowl. not sure anything other than the ducks are fowl but damn those birds taste good.
I enjoy hunting shooting and eating them but its not the same without a dog. Toying with the idea of getting another dog.
They are a lot of fun too shoot at Takes quite a bunch to make a meal for me. Wrapped with bacon n baked is my fav. They just started showing up in big numbers last week here. Mostly on power lines. Wheats going down and suspect that is where they are feeding?
yeh. when wheat and corn are cut they come...here in the south our wheat was cut back in June, now we are cutting corn
Up here the grains are all coming out wheat rye oats. Heck the corn in some fields is dented already. Knee high corn by the 4th of July is a thing of the past there were tassels on the corn by the 4th of July up by me.
Opens September 1st here and I plan on going for sure. Buddy has 20 acres with 5 in sunflowers ready to mow. It is always a blast. Sent from my SM-G960U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I used to go but haven't for years. I don't care for them at all, just taste weird to me compared to any other game bird. I had a friend that didn't mind eating them, so I'd go with him and just give him my birds after helping to clean them. We always did the best in a harvested pea field for jump shooting them, and then towards evening we had a couple spots where they always flew over when heading to roost. It was normal to shoot a box of shells and have about 4-6 birds to show for it, ha ha.

Dove opener overlaps with deer opener in NC... So I do neither in NC... I'll be driving west to go chase elk,
My dad will be be out almost everyday once his season opens. He lives in north texas, between his property and the land his had permission on he has he could hunt day and night for a season without burning out spots. The nightly roost shoots are the best.
