My wife turned 50 this month and we celebrated 30 years of marriage on the 28th also. So, to celebrate, we made a last minute decision to jump in the car for a 12 hour drive to Colorado and climb to the top of the mountains. Once there, we ended up staying 9 days and put on a lot of miles hiking and climbing. We started in Breckenridge and made a summit our first day. A couple days later we headed to Winter Park for a few days and finished up with a few days in Avon. Each stop was great and we had a blast "social distancing" on the mountains. Our hardest climb took over 7 hours and kicked this flat-lander's butt! Each summit was definitely worth the effort. The views from up there just can't be described. I am exceptionally lucky to have my wife also be my best friend. I think this trip has made us consider our retirement quite seriously and likely moved things up a few years. Life is short, work hard and play harder!

Sounds like a fun time, nothing like some down time away from all the crazy crap going on.

Smart man letting her carry the backpack! Of course she is younger than you....

Looks and sounds like a great get away. You are correct that life is short. I have no regrets about retiring early. Do what you want while you still can.

I wondered who would be the first to point that out. I should have known! lol.

My phone was in my pack, so I took the pack off and set the phone on it to take a picture with the timer setting. I might be the man of the house, but only with permission.

What a great trip! Colorado mountains are a special place and hard to describe unless you have been to see in person. I've been twice and they are absolutely beautiful!

Congrats on the birthday and anniversary! Hard to believe from that picture that either one of you are around 50. I would have thought early 40s. My wife and I just got back from a 12 day camping trip through Colorado, Yellowstone, and Badlands. We didn't do any summits because our kids are too young for it, but we did some day hikes. My wife and I hit the summit on Antero in the Collegiate range before we had kids.

I will be 53 this Fall and she just turned 50. We certainly don't feel or act our age. Thanks for the compliment!

Glad to hear you got to enjoy the mountains also. That is a great family activity. I am now looking for a Sprinter conversion that we can use to travel and base out of for hiking and knocking around. I would like to do all the 14'ers in Colorado. Glacier National Park also has some amazing hiking.

AllTrails is a great app to use to look up hikes wherever you are. Lots of good information and maps and reviews. Anyone that likes to hike should check it out. I was buying some new trekking poles at a shop in Colorado and the lady that owned the shop put me onto AllTrails. So glad she did.
