60# vertix. 26.5" draw. Rage Hypo p+ 1.5" cut. used a 375 gr arrow last two years. no issues but I might feel more confident with a heavier arrow. Not sure how heavy though. Don't want to sacrifice too much speed because I don't have much to start with. I just like to hunt with one pin shots under 30 yds. suggestions?

Just keep your same setup, minus the mech heads what your shooting is plenty,“might feeling more confident” isn’t a reason to me to switch, just practice with what you have and be more proficient and that will make you more confident.

From what I’ve read.........what you bench press should be your arrow weight with a spoiler on the front to bring it more FOC..

Dont mess with your set up when it hasn’t done you wrong

Rage heads have been very good to me for the past 10 years. killed over 40 deer with them over the past decade. I see no reason to change that. I just keep reading about how 60# shooters with short DL want well over 400 gr.

They also say skinny jeans and seltzer beers are cool, keep your current setup and keep killing!

It's hard to argue with your success; I just cringe at your set up with a 1.5 mech. Seems like trying to kill a deer with an aluminum foil throwing star.

Sorry. No way I would shoot that light poundage+grains with a mech.

To your original question- 430ish would be adequate.

I'm shooting 73lbs. 26.5" draw from Mathews Creed at the moment, arrow weight is 425gr. Switching from Rage to Havalon HV fixed blades. Now I am looking at picking up a PSE Xpedite with 80lb limbs today, draws like its only 70lbs. Trying to pick up some fps. Hard to come by for us short guys lol

I also have 50 or 75gr brass inserts in the front of my arrows for higher FOC. My arrows penetrate no doubt. Shot an IBO tournament last weekend with some buds that had Vertixs set at 70lbs and 30" draw. They shot super fast, but my arrows penetrated deeper on every target by 4in or so. They couldnt believe it.

I always shot 70+ pounds until a few years ago so most of my kills with a rage were with higher poundage. Love my rage heads. I shoot the Hypo+P for the smaller cut.

I have nothing against mechs, the only thing is they kept me anxiously checking the collars and making sure everything is snug up front while moving to the stand, or sitting in the stand.

Go get some pile drivers 11.3 grains per inch. Don't let anybody tell you that rage mechanicals are bad but check out the muzzy mechanical they are more better, they have an extra cutting surface.

See, I don't have that problem. Especially with collar system. I killed deer with Muzzy, Wasp, and Slick Tricks. All were great, just did not leave the devastation of the Rage. I have never had a failure with rage. that's a decade of shooting them. I just love them

I'm sure they are perfectly fine. I also know I have way more than enough energy to deploy them, so I wasn't worried about that either. Just still cant get over the deploy design. I dont feel comfortable with them and that's why I made the switch. I know with a Havalon fixed blade on the front, it can only do one thing. Cut.

You have to feel confident in the tree. No matter what head you use.

People that rip on rages or blame them for a failure to tag is BS. I have shot rages with 1 blade deployed and every other combination of deployment with no changes the to flight. The only way that the blades do not deploy is if you hit bone with no penetration. Those who protest the loudest have never shot the head they just listened to sob stories on the internet or heard it from a buddy at the bar.

That right there is why I wont shoot them this year. Just personal preference. I know they perform well. I just dont feel confident so I'm switching back to something I know works. I have yet to shoot a rage at a deer, I'm sure my anxiety of them would go away then. But as of right now I feel better with a different head.
