It's supposed to say **Good, not goof***

I hope I'm just being overly dramatic. My 10-year-old Beagle, Sandy, was p-ing what seemed to be almost pure blood, and having to go every few minutes. This started at around 3 am. Of course, I panicked and called the animal hospital. They said it could be a UTI, but, it could be something else. I decided to bring her in. They checked her out, tested her urine and said the analysis aligns with a severe UTI.

They gave her antibiotics, and some pain meds to keep her sleepy so she is not in pain. She is hungry (That doesn't mean anything though, the house could be on fire and she would eat) She is peeing, Squatting every few seconds and pooping. She's whimpering (not a in pain whimper) at the door constantly. I put down P-pads, but of course, they are white and magnify the blood. I have noticed clots in the P. Called the vet again and they said it is to be expected. They said if she refuses to drink, or stops trying to go P to call them as it could be something worse.

I think I could be overreacting, at least I hope I am.

Sorry there is no dark humor/perverted meme in this thread.....

I hope this passes quickly and that she recovers perfectly. I hate to see pets in distress.

I have bred and raised beagles, and fox hounds at times, since 98. Kidney disease, failure is common is beagles, however from a genetic standpoint it usually shows up fairly early on between three and six years old. While it's possible that this has a component CRF, it sounds like a possible UTI considering the age.
Make sure the prescription is for a broad spectrum antibiotic as UTIs have varying bacterial origins. If it's a UTI you should see improvement within 5 to 7 days.

If it's some type of renal disease just for your information I have seen very limited if any results with hyper fluid treatments which are commonly suggested. They tend to drag out The inevitable while empty in your wallet with all the no real chance for a good longer term prognosis.

Dang Joe, hope she bounces back quick. My last lab used to get UTI's on occasion. Never to the point of blood but meds usually worked pretty quick for her.

    Keep us posted!

Thanks, everyone! She is no longer P-ing blood, and squatting every few seconds when she is outside. She seems really tired. Ate her food this am no problem, but only a little bit of water, which is not like her. I don't know, I don't like that.

Not afraid to admit, that I was bawling when I brought her to the vet Saturday morning. I didn't leave her side all weekend, because I know she'd do the same for me. No other thing in life loves you unconditionally like a dog. My dog doesn't care that I didn't shoot a deer, doesn't care how much I weigh, doesn't care how the rest of the world views me. She loves me for being me.

    damn...

Poor Sandy girl. I concur with the others Joe. Sounds like a UTI. My in-laws foster senior dogs that would otherwise be put down so they have one last chance to be spoiled and comfortable. They see kidney problems and uti’s a lot in the older dogs.

I think, knock on wood, she's gonna be okay! Shae was back to her normal self last night trying to annoy me into submission for a treat. She likes to scratch at anything she can that makes a noise at night to get treats. It usually drives me up the wall, but it was a welcomed sight last night! Thanks for all the support, as I said, I knew I'd find it here!

Two days after her Amoxycillin cycle is over, it starts up again. Bringing her to the vet for 12:30.
