Hunting last year my buddy texted me a gobbling hen just what by his blind (1/2 mile away). A little while later she walked 15 years from me. Still gobbling.

not yet, but i did see my first bearded hen while sitting in the blind. They're a legal bird in MN, but never came in range or she woulda got the bonk.

Weird! I've never seen it or heard a story from someone about it.
I've had birds come in gobbling that had no visible beard, but if I shot them they have always been young Toms that had small spurs at least.
A bearded hen is legal here, but if you shot a bird solely because it was gobbling and it then ended up being a beardless hen you would be in trouble.

We have ALOT of bearded hens on my farm, at least 2-3 if not more.

Correct. I’d also refrain from killing a hen in the spring because she probably had a clutch of eggs.

Beard rot was common on one of my farms. 2-3 gobblers had it. They were mature birds with full fans and good spurs but little no beard and blond patches on them.
