Can anyone give me some ideas on a all around hunting vehicle for under 6k? I’m looking into getting a new vehicle in the near future. I can’t decide wether to get an suv or truck. I want something with room for passengers, reliable, and decent on gas mileage. Thanks for the help!
If it's for hunting just ask yourself 1 question. 1. Will my wheeler fit in the back. 2. If 1 is not applicable see 3 3. Get a wheeler
I was in similar situation, ended up with a 4wd Honda Pilot. Room for 8 passengers, both rows of seat fold flat for all my hunting gear and everything stays dry. I can tow boat or trailer with whatever. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I had a 2006 pilot and it was awesome. 3rd row and great on gas. Sold it with 220000 on it it's a great suv.

define "great on gas" asking b/c I had an 06 Ridgeline (same powertrain) and it was horrific on gas. Like 13mpg. I would say a Jeep Cherokee 1998-2001 if you can find one. Bullet proof drive train and literally go-anywhere. Even with a mild lift and 33s you can get about 20mpg. Comfortably tow just under 4000lbs. I had 2 and put over 190k on both. Wish I had never sold my 98.

I agree with @dnoodles. I have an 01 Jeep Cherokee with 211K on it. No lift on mine but I have the tow package, roof rack, and foglights. Other than the occasional electrical switch needing to be replaced, the motor has always been solid. I have no intention of getting rid of mine. If you look into one, make sure you buy one with the 4.0 inline-six engine. When taken care of, it is not unheard of for that engine to make it to 300K. I bought mine 8 years ago when it had 139K on it.
I'll never forget an off-road park I went to as part of a Jeep Wrangler club (I was in my heavily modded 02 Wrangler.) Some random dude fell in with our parade; he was driving a completely bone-stock Cherokee with street tires. That dude went damn near literally ever where the rest of us went with only a couple of exceptions- some steep slick rock and a couple of angles that he would have gotten hung up on due to no lift. He even loaned me his lithium sawzall when I got hung up on a log that got wedged in my transmission shield. Kind of humiliating he did everything he was doing in a bone stock machine that probably cost less than most of the club guys spent on one set of custom axles.
