This may seem like a silly question...do you guys that wear a fleece vest for added core warmth ever wear them as the most outer layer or always under your jacket. I came across a couple good close out deals and have never added a vest to my suit. Trying to determine what size would be best. Thanks.

I suppose that would depend on how heavy the fleece is and how cold it is. I have a puffy vest that is a very important part of my layering system but I could not use it as an outer wear piece because it would be too noisy. Most fleece garments do not have any sort of wind stopper in them so if there was much air movement I'm not sure how well it would work as an outer layer.

What he said! And fleece picks up burrs like no other. If I can avoid it as an outer layer, I do. IMO there are better options out there for both layering and outer layers than fleece. However, fleece does still work and is relatively inexpensive compared to many of today's high-end synthetic fabrics or natural insulation such as down or wool.

I never took part in the vest thing myself. I’m 61, moved to Florida, lol and avoid the cold like the plague.

My brother swore by vests , I just never did. However, being my stubborn mind expanded a bit as I had my mind THAW in Florida, I see a super advantage to a vest. Arms don’t really get cold do they. Your chest does , and your back is what destroys you in the cold.

So I’d for certain incorporate a vest, but as an inner layer, especially for archery cold to lessen up arm bulk.
