So the traveling and hauling water in jugs to the property just isn't working. With the extremely high water table I want to be able to just install a DIY shallow well I can pull the well pump each year at the end of it to battle freezing issues as it will reside inside a unheated shed/small barn IF I get one built.

Who has done their own poor man's well or shallow well?

Any recommendations for kits? The set up build? Opinions welcome please!

Ty you are talking a sand point correct? go with a 2". You said shallow well, go with 5' sections of pipe. Also keep the driving cap tight on the threads it will loosen after blows from the post hole driver, you do not want to screw up the pipe threads. Keep water on hand for the driving. When you drive the well keep the pipe full of water, when you start losing water in the pipe the point will be in a formation that yields water. The amount of water a well will take will be the same the well produces, so if you can get 10 gallons a minute to go out of the well it will produce 10 gpm.

I was going to add, if you are using the pump for irrigation I would go with a pump only no pressure tank the pump can run constantly. When you mount the pump have the pump on a little pedestal. It will be easier to drain the pump, also keep a bucket by the pump when you drain the pump save the water to reprime the pump.

Go at least 15-18 feet for potable water.

Pipe tape and thread sealant along with 2 36" pipe wrenches will be your friends. You have to get those joints TIGHT. That is one reason Sota is spot on with 2" pipe.

And make sure your power wire is sized properly.

Whoa Pic, no teflon or any kind of pipe tape on down hole fittings. Pipe dope only, I also avoid tape on any fittings on the suction side of the pump.

LOL. Everyone around here uses tape.

If tynimiller already had a water supply, he could "drill" his own well using PVC piping and then drop a submersible pump down that casing. Of course, that all depends on the amount of stone in the soil.

I would hit a rock 1 foot short of good water. Ty if water is that shallow you might want to consider a french drain and a sump that would facilitate a 4" submersible no need to winterize just remove the check valve in the submersible pump. I will check my stock I may have a pump to donate. Dig a trench put in drain tile feeding a sump, I think I might have a 115v volt pump on a shelf that has been there for years.

Water level is very high. Immense water source isn't critical, just sick of hauling water for sprayers, tree watering and the like.

Understood, a sand point will work.
