For all you scouting/map junkies. This thread can be used to share our ground scouting, map scouting, and whatever else you want. I thought it would be a good idea to keep it in one thread (although no one has to) so we can look back and learn from it. I'll be starting my 2020 scouting on Monday. "Those who scout more kill more". KILL
I just found out this big state park not 15 minutes from my house offers archery only hunting. 100 hunters get picked to hunt about 3k acres. Only open mon through Thursday which is perfect for my work schedule. I'm gonna swing by the park office and speak to the park people soon. I dont want to waste 5 to 10 scouting days on this place if the chances are I wont be able to hunt it. Big hardwoods...love it.
Ill be following. Our late season is in until the 20th so I won’t be out until after that. This is where the hunt begins for me. I was just at my local ag and feed store buying rock salt where I’ve been doing business for years. The owner told me I’d be welcome to hunt their farm at will. It’s a huge area. He has known I am a bowhunter for years and just gave me my first invite yesterday. What a blessing! I’m super excited about it. I also love getting new spots and attempting to put the pieces of the puzzle together. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That will be key for you. I'm a big believer on hunting as close to your home as possible. The ability to leave at a moments notice to either go hunt or get home. This may up your chances to hunt more! Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
I hear you. My closest "good" spot to hunt is 50 minutes away. I'd love to hunt a couple days a week close to home.
My scouting doesn't start til February 1. That's the day after deer season ends and I don't want to be in the woods and mess another hunter up. So hopefully I can add some Intel to the thread in the next few months. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
This is the reason I can hunt so much. All my spots are within 35 minutes of my home. Just in every direction! Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
This, from my house it is less than 15 minutes, from work its about half of that. I'm hoping I can pick up some more ground and contribute to this thread as well as learn from it.
Post up some maps and we will get all over it. I'll probably get out Tuesday for Day 1 2020 scouting. Gonna buzz the north side of a lake to see if it has the deer sign I need to hunt it. Thinking maybe 5 to 6 miles of walking will give me an idea.
Here you go Mud. If you get out to these spots takes some pics of any sign you find. And if they suck, let us know that as well! haha. Red possible stands, yellow travel, blue beds.
