Mollie was a very good squirrel dog. She was a stray that came up about 8 yrs ago, half starved and severe case of mange. We fattened her up treated her for mange and found out real quick she was a very good tree dog. But, she was bout 10 yrs old and had heart worms. Had to take her to vet and put to sleep about 4 yrs ago. Yep, I cried!
I have Lucie now a 3 yr old mountain Cur, she's an excellent squirrel dog also! I have a video of Lucie and Mollie treein a squirrel. We also have Rosie and Bella, Rosie is our house dog, Bella stays outside with Lucie. Well, I'll post pictures when I figure out how! This is little Rosie May. half chi and half yorkie.

Had to put my good dog down this weekend. Man, that was rough! She was 11 and appeared healthy as could be. She was out in the yard playing catch with my son and when she came in she laid down and an hour later couldn't get back up. Turns out she had massive tumors on her spleen that ruptured while playing and was bleeding internally. Surgery has a 50/50 shot of survival and even if they make it, they usually only last a few months until the cancer gets them. So we made the hard choice to end her suffering. Apparently this is pretty common in labs, goldens and German Shephards. Still doesn't make it any easier.

Got her back in 2008 as a wedding present for my wife. The day we brought her home.

1229151246r.jpg So sorry Justin!! That's a very hard thing to do for sure! In the last 2 years I've had to take 2 of our house dogs to vet to put them to sleep. One was 14 ( rat terrier) the other was 8 ( Chihuahua
(SP) they become part of the family!
My squirrel dog Lucie, is my best friend, don't want to think about losing her!!

I am sorry to hear that Justin. She looks like she was a beautiful dog. She is the same age as mine.

Yeah, it was a definite bummer and not the way I pictured my day going! I had just got done shooting my bow and was about to start getting my son ready for his basketball game when it all went down. The silver lining is that it all happened quickly and she didn't suffer.

I'd like to take a break from dogs for a few months, but there's a local breeder having a litter in about 3 weeks that's exactly what I'm looking for. Puppies would come home in mid-February and as much as I don't want to deal with a puppy in the dead of winter, I may end up doing it.

Sorry to hear this Justin, that's rough! I went thru this about 2 years ago with my dog, he was my little buddy. I still haven't got another dog since then. Just remember all those good times and never stop tell story's about him.

Winter will be half over. It might be good for you and the whole family to have another faithful companion.

Puppies are a lot of work but the good far out weighs the bad. My dogs bring a lot of smiles and laughter to me that I wouldn't want to be without. good luck.

I picked my pup up February 9 last year and I think it was a pretty good time for it. He was born 12/16. It worked out pretty good we just missed the crazy arctic blast so it felt decent out. I was able to take him out for short walks in the woods most days to get him acclimated and used to staying with me no matter where I go and as it warmed up and I started shed hunting and mushroom hunting he was accustomed to it and there were no issues as long as I could keep him dry. I’m kinda like Todd though I take my dog everywhere and my truck is full of hair lol

Got my pup out for his first few hunts over the last week. He’s got a few things we still need to work on, but overall he’s doing a great job. What a pile of fun watching him work, I should have done this years ago!
