SO BUMMED out. Slow movement tonight. Sat in the old building again. A mature doe n fawn came off a ridge and bedded about 50 yards away at 3:30. Layed there till about 4:30 when they got up. Could tell by the does body language a buck was coming. He came and chased her around a bit. Finally had a good 22 yard broadside shot. I did not hear a hit but he mule kcked. Was only a couple minutes before legal time. Batteries were dead on the flashlight. He's real wide, that's about I could tell. There is a GIANT on the property that is real wide. Gonna be there early a.m. I just want this year to end! Sleepless night coming!
Good luck buddy, rooting for you. You been putting the time in. Hopefully it pays off! Cant wait check this tread tomorrow for the update !
Well guys. Ain't sure what happened? I searched the whole woods and came up empty. Did notice there was a few tall weeds in line with the shot. I did not find my arrow but that's understandable as I was on the ground and we had about 5 inches overnight.. I knew I would no find blood on the ground so I checked the sides of trees, weeds, brush for blood. Not a speck. Had my dog with also. Gonna have to chalk this on up as a miss. My shooting this year has been horrible and I'm a bit ashamed. Gonna hit the range much harder next year. .
Went and sat in the same place last Eve. Didn't see a deer. This cold weather is wearing me down. Any others been out?
I went out last night. I sat on a stand I have deep in the woods. Loud walk in as it is drier than a popcorn fart here in Oklahoma, every step is a crunchy one. Didnt have much action until last light when three does came walking by followed by a younger buck that was followed by my shooter. I will say, my Ziess binoculars are money well spent, I can see well after sunset and with that moon last night they really came in handy. I ended up not getting off my stand until 7.30, 2 full hours after sunset. When my shooter came in it was way too dark to shoot but he decided to hang out and rub trees and work a scrape. I just sat there thinking he'd leave, he didnt. About 7 o'clock I heard something else coming in and after listening to the crunchy approach for what seemed like forever the one lone hog finally came by and pushed the shooter out. About that same time a Chinook helicopter was approaching so I got down and timed it pretty well with the helicopter flying over, didnt seem to bump anything other than the hog.
Tried to get some fellas together to make some drives. Pussie- whipped bastards! It's to cold/ my wife wants to go shopping/the Vikings are playing, yadda, yadda.
I been wanting to shoot a bit snow and wind has kept me in doors. Looking foward to Arizona next month, not sure if I am going to he looking for a cous or a mule deer. Guess I wait and see what we are seeing
I had a little range therapy the other day. I have a 60 yard range in the warehouse at work. Monday was nasty blowing cold weather so no roofs going up, warehouse guys watching tv and me all to myself. In other news, I bought my 6 year old niece her first bow for Christmas. She shot bow at a day camp this summer and has an aptitude for it so leave it to uncle Bob.. Hunting. I've backed out on my place for a bit to let it settle down. I pulled cards the other day and I have a decent buck I'm going for. He has been out in light frequently.
Good luck in AZ Jimmy. A big cous would be cool. Bob, also good luck. From here on out till December 31, I'm just playing day to day. Had a buddy make a drive today and 3 fawns came to about 10 yards. No bucks. A warm up is coming so may be able to sit a few more times. Overall, it was fun hunting/ following along with you fellas. I feel bad myself for screwing up a few times but...
