Has anyone had any experiences with JetBoil or MSR brand backpack stoves? What did you like, or not like, about them? Or does anyone have any other suggestions that could work? Thank ya.
I’ve had a JetBoil for over 10 years. Never had a single issue with it. Works great for a couple guys, but I’d had another one for more than that. Like the fact that everything fits inside the cup. Makes packing handy.
I three MSR stoves the Reactor, the wisperlite universal and and the pocket rocket 2. They all been soild. My universal even used for years and years. At one point I thought I should get a replacement for it as its looking kind of rough. I bought a brand new one and it sitting unused in the the box. I cant kill the orginal one. The reactor is bomb proof. I have read several mountaineering reviews sighting it was the best most reliable stove made, after a few years of using It i am not doubting it. Its excellent and worth the cost. The pocket rocket is nice little stove I use when space a weight is at premium. It fits with the fuel canister in a pot for a single self contained unit.. MSR is great company to work with and for the most part very hunter friendly with my dealing with them. Jetboil by all acounts is great product however they been accused of taking anti hunting postions. How true that is I don't know. I stick with MSR because the quailty been excellent, I have several other of their products as well.
I appreciate the insight!! I used a buddy's JetBoil while ice fishing over the weekend and the igniter wouldnt work. That was enough for me to start shopping MSR stoves. Thanks, Trial!
No concerns with my Jetboil, igniter works fine, but I have seen a few that have problems. Check the igniter clearance. And if necessary disassemble the igniter assembly, clean/inspect and reassemble is sometimes enough to get you back in business, if nothing is broken or lost. See concern that trial mentioned. When/if my Jetboil dies, msr will be my pick.
