Hunting like this has me walking the last 200 yds in 30 minutes. If this area was open 10 days ago Id be very confident Id see great movement based on the aggressive buck sign. Followed the rubs all the way into a creek cross I scouted in the fall...leads into the swamp and private/public state property that isnt hunted. About as far as I can get away from all gun pressure.

Decided I would pull a couple cards this afternoon instead of hunting in these 25mph winds. Moved a couple cameras around to help monitor what I think will be travel corridors to late season food sources. Found a couple trees that will make potential stand sites for some late season set ups.
    Good luck PM shift!

Oh man guys I had the most insane blood trail today on my good friends deer! He shot it around 8:00 and we started to track at 9:00 well we got to the impact point and it was incredible where the deer was standing there was blood splattered on a tree 5-7 feet behind it like it exploded. Then we followed literally a red carpet for 350-400 yards like at a fast walk and could follow blood 20 yards in front of you. So we were like dead deer. Well at this 350-400 yard point we jumped him and were shocked cause he lost buckets of blood. So we waiting til 11:00 to start tracking again and it was still lots of blood enough to be walking the whole time. Like up and over steep hills and thick brush but still insane blood. Found a area as big as a car just torn up leaves and blood on everything and then he hiked up another huge hill. Went back down and then to a field. At this point my uncle was like this deer lived. So on the other side of the field is a fence and a road so I said I’ll walk across and walk down the fence just to rule that out of there. Well to be shocked was an under statement. He went across the field jumped the fence and there was big spots of blood on the road. Well we then had to go get permission to get on this persons property. So we went to there house and talked to them and got permission. Came back to where he crossed the road and started again. He went across a river and bedded again. Then started an insane zig zagging hike up a huge steep hill that was wet and we barely could keep going cause we were sliding back in the mud from how steep it was. Well he made it all the way to the top and bedded twice going up. We went over the top and down about 100 yards and jumped him again. And we ran after him and he bedded so we snuck up to the log but he had already kept going. So my uncle said if I see him again I’m going to run him down. Well we tracked another 200 yards to the neighbors house we just got permission to track on there property and there’s the buck in there yard. So we started sprinting after it through there yard into the river again and down the river and it bedded right after in jumped a log. So my friend walked up and put another shot on it and it expired. Over 4.5 hours of tracking and 2 miles and we ended up getting it. It was insane! Sorry for the long story just figured I needed to share it cause was so excited we found it.

I wasn’t going to punish myself with high winds and rain again this afternoon, really sucks.
I’ll be out in the morning with the gunners, but taking the bow.
After today’s nasty weather and Highs in the lower 40’s tomorrow, I think some animals will meet their demise during this gun season

I had to skip this morning because it was raining but I've been on stand for about an hour.

With the exception of a lone squirrel nothing is moving yet.

I should at least see "a" deer. I'm beginning to worry about what the local pressure has done to the movement patterns.

The does I saw last night were eating left over red oak acorns. The woods floor was destroyed from them looking for acorns. On Saturday I watch 4 does for a hour eat green grass shoots coming out of a marsh.

Yep, I was thinking that such an elaborately detailed story really should be followed by pics.

Had a fun night out. 2 does worked in down wind of me, spooked and left. First time I have been winded this season. Pull my phone out, and look up and one of the 2 works right in at me downwind. Comes to within 10 yds of the stand. Always fun when they work in that tight. The buck that I was targeting didn't work in with her unfortunately. Got pretty chilly by the end. Those last 15 minutes go pretty slow when you're cold.

I'll be up at 3 again, on the road by 4.

I know I will not be alone, 2 others will be hunting, father and son ot real sure on the sons age. Hunter not hunting never got back on where the others were likely to sit, won't know that until morning.

Should still get a good stand, just might nit be he one I prefer.

VS...So how many bucks can you kill in Virginia? If I am accurate, I got you at 2 so far on the year. Is that correct?
