4:00pm and I'm in the ground blind sporting the xbow. 40 yards is a reasonable option with this.

    Darton Viper SS Xtreme
    BEA Executioner
    Rage Crossbow heads

Not really a Rage fan. These are one and done if you hit any bone, but they do kill.[IMG][IMG]

Wow, that's a tough one Tony. I'd guess that there's a dead deer at the end of that blood trail somewhere, but stuff like that happens from time to time. Great to hear that you made a new friend in the deal.

As far as the deer goes ... As they used to say in the Doritos commercials - they'll make more.

So here’s the story if your not in the text group. Talked to a elderly guy at church last week who told me he’d seen some big bucks in behind his house. He lives about 5 miles from my house. But he only owns 3 acres. Looked at the wind and figured I could give it a shot tonight for a quick hunt. Got there about 3 and crossed a little bit steep creek behind his house. Found a little trail they had be using and followed it down to the only spot I could see where they crossed the creek. I found a tree, climbed up with my spurs and saddle and got set up. It was real thick off to my left but somewhat open to my right. But my longest shot would’ve been 30 yards.

I actually dropped my tether whole setting up. If you dont saddle hunt, that’s the critical rope that holds you in the tree after you disconnect from your lineman’s belt. I remembered a trick Eric mentioned last week where you take you tow rope, tie an arrow to it, and fish for whatever you dropped. It worked!!!

10 minutes later I hear grunting on the hill above me. Then I see a doe run down the hill. Instead of going to my right, she makes a turn and goes by my stand at 15 yards. This buck is grunting like mad and follows. He came to about 15-20 yards and I tried a shot. Thought I had a little opening but I flat rushed it and I hit a limb. He hopped 5 yards away and just looked around. He calmed down after a minute and then went a laid down! Like 25 yards away. I was shaking like a mad man at this point. Grabbed another arrow and considered trying to shoot him in his bed but thought better of it.

2 minutes later he stands up and walks to my left. And then behind me. Because I’m in a saddle, this isnt too hard of a shot. I draw and find an opening. It’s thick. Couple small limbs but nothing too major in the opening I pick. He hits that gap and I stop him. Perfect upper heart shot. He ran up the hill maybe 40 yards and did a back flip. He bellered for 3 seconds and that was it. Didnt get it on my main camera but was able to get it ALL on my GoPro which was attached to my tether.

I’m on cloud 9. I wouldve never predicted this. I hiked miles and put in a ton of time on my main property. Got close but couldn’t seal the deal. I go to a random property I’ve never hunted and get a buck within 15 minutes of being set up! I think Gods been teaching me the importance of waiting for His timing. I had a lot to learn this season the hard way. 2 bad shots on bucks. But if led to this and I can’t be more grateful.

Keep at it guys! I’m proof that it can happen at anytime, anywhere. I’ll post him once I get him scored.

Arghhh this season has been a pain. Almost at the point to drop a Fergie but gotta see one first. :moose: I haven't seen a single deer while in the stand. Everyone else whose stand I hung has and they are using rifles. :bhod:

I feel your pain. I've had one borderline 8 point in range all season. He's only about 115 inches so I've passed him. A few more times and I may not lol

Back when I could hunt all the time I passed a 130 that I totally regret doing now lol. Hear it all the time so you guys save it but I'd say anything over 100 inches is getting it now. For the team! Hahaha
