I always shoot freehand unless I have a rest... in this case I was sitting with my elbow on my knee... I am deadly with my equipment.... my error would have been not allowing him to enter the open lane... he was beautiful

Calling for fog now in the morning. Something awesome about sitting in the bottoms with fog lingering around. Just sitting there envisioning that rack swaying into view as it nears.

Wind is absolutely perfect for tomorrow. May sit all day now, first buck ever killed was on the 16th, maybe just maybe I can do it with the bow this time.

I'm going in at 8 to let the deer clear the beans. I dont have high confidence for the morning, but I'm telling you now that the evening is where it's at. This buck has no idea how aggressive I'm about to get and I've been planning this ever since I almost had him last year. Call me petty.

I think what’s killing me the most... I wait all year for this...: the hours and hours of scouting ..... even more hours being on stand ... passing dozens of deer as they aren’t what you wanted to kill.... getting up when you don’t want to... leaving the warmth of your wife... the hugs of your children/grandchildren....all for the opportunity that comes along for most of us rarely.... and your opportunity to kill your #1 target presents itself during the last hour of the last day of bow.... and you blow it

Last year I took a week off for the rut and hunted 9 straight days. Pretty much all day sits everyday. Didnt see a single shooter and very few deer all together. Literally at last light on Sunday night before the Monday I had to go back to work here comes a doe with a buck in tow. Countless hours on the stand and at the last possible minute here is a shooter broadside at 30 yards. I shot and i missed. I got down, went home and didnt hunt again that season.

No matter how much we prepare and prep ourselves for that moment, once it arrives it is as unexpected and unpredicatble as they get.

Add in the anxiety and fear of missing the opportunity and we can do unexplainable things. Some work out and some do not, it's the nature of the beast.

How many times during your preparation for the moment did you envision bumping the stock and alerting him to your presence? We always envision that perfect scenario, but it rarely transpires that way.
Hopefully you recover him and realize it did play out the way you wanted it, just not the way you anticipated it to go.

I know. Looking back I regret not hunting again but mentally I was just defeated after that. I actually didnt even tell anyone I saw a buck let alone shot and missed one. Haha. Its like when you're on the stand bored out of your mind. Hungry and cold questioning what youre even doing there and on the walk back to the truck you think man I cant wait to do this again.

Rifle opener. Need a good tree at my back and a freezer queen... Or two.

In honor of Clint... I'm only taking one knife, if will be the wrong one. I don't own a boonie hat. And I'll forget or lose something or miss on a shot...oh, and the weather is suppose to suck. [IMG]

Up and showered, conditions are absolutely perfect for the property. Probably have other hunters today, but winds turning SSE/SE will blow all scent away from each other. Can't really ask for anything more aside from Mr. Buck Nasty making an appearance.
