I know at first glance he doesn’t look like he is 120-5/8”, but his main beams are super thick and he has a monster spread.
You mean the 115" that scored 141"?? … this is coming from a guy with no dog in the fight. I'm not on a team.
His bloody mass scores were bigger then this deer and a few tines too. I disliked the post. I suggest people start actually doing that. To let the person know. And if someone posts the classic "it was a mistake" post I'm gonna puke. It doesn't take a taxidermist to wrap a measuring tape around a horn and write down the number that you see. My daughter's in grade 4. She's learning measurement right now. She can do it.
I've never said anything if one is a little off. That one is off by over 20 inches easy. I honestly don't know how he came up with that.
Dude, I ain't even put a score on my booner yet. He's still at the stretcher.... errr taxidermist. I'll get him up there, guessing low to mid 200's.
If you deduct the 16” for the “C” (greatest spread I assume?) and 6-1/2” for the “B” (inside spread?) measurements from the total it’ll give you a more reasonable 118-5/8”. Some of the scoring worksheets you can print out do a better job than others at making it clear that those first few measurements aren’t included in the total score.
Every measurement has a a tape that starts at 1" or more. Those mass scores are honestly close to half of what he put. G1 is not 4.5", maybe from the base of the main beam not the base of the point.
Right... I don't disagree with you! But you're going to "puke" over giving someone the benefit of the doubt (calling it a mistake)? Because calling them out on an internet deer hunting contest is the way to go?? I mean - a guy can get away with a lot in life but posting an incorrect score of a buck on a forum full of avid hunters is probably not one of the things he can get away with. I think we can all eyeball even poor trail camera photos of a deer in velvet and put a decent score on a buck these days. The team cap and individual have both been notified. Beyond that - we all know by just looking at it that he messed up. Everyone has different levels of experience and I'd rather someone constructively inform him where he messed up and maybe it will help him for the next time!! A lot of hunters on the interwebs and social medias this year calling other hunters out... Seems odd to me.
Ok, guys. I'm in a pinch here. Taxidermist scored my buck for me, the score is higher than I thought it would be. He came up with 10 abnormal points. I do not have access to the rack, I am not going to have him rescore it. There was a lot of junk on the bases and some weird points I have never seen on other deer. At first glance I knew it had 4 abnormals that would score, it had others that would be close but I do not carry my tape with me. That will change from here on out. He mounted my first deer in 2007 so is not new to the game. He is not a certified scorer, he said he did everything necessary but never got around to getting the actual certification. All I can provide is the pictures I have on my phone. I play by the rules and I leave it in your hands.
