So I just entered the world of bowhunting and was wondering if anybody has hunted chain-o-lake state park. Also if they have I was curious how the yield was last year.

I never have but thought about it a few times since I am right down the road from it 10 minutes away. I have some friends that have so I will ask them for you.

Thanks for the welcome note. And thanks for asking your friends. It's been kinda hard get intell on the chain. This is my first season and I'm really trying to do my research. Didn't have time to do any scouting either. But like I said I have been doing my research. Still looking for a topographical map to get a better feel for the terrain and size.
    Thanks again,
    Jeremy

Hey Guys, new to the site, forum, and bowhunting. Since the season is a few months away, I wanted to start sighting in my 30 and maybe down-the-line, my 40 yd pin. To do so, I need an outdoor range. I've been researching like crazy and finally found a few including Chain O Lakes. My questions are:

Are there elevated positions to shoot from? If so, how many? Yards?

Is it really free to the public?

Does it get really crowded on weekdays/weekends?

Without a quiver (still need to buy one before hunting season), what would you recommend to hold my arrows? Not sure if they have those wooden blocks that they usually have at an indoor range or not...

Any other info that a noob should know before going?

    Thanks!

I have been to that range a few times over the last couple weeks on the weekends and have been the only one. The range uses hay bales with paper targets. I would suggest you take a few targets glued onto some cardboard. They usually have some left by others but they are pretty torn up. They do have a tower that you can shoot from at any distance from 20-40. Let me know when you are thinking of going maybe we can shoot together! Might try to make it this weekend again!

I may go next weekend. I have been really busy with work and family functions, so I too have been neglecting my bow. Need to reset my sights whereas I got a new stand this season and want to try from an elevated position to
    see how I shoot.

Does anyone have a good spot in the chain were they see deer. Last year I was skunked and this is not looking good.
