What should be a great time of year ( and the weather has been real good for deer movement), it's just not happening yet. Passed on a decent 4x4 last week. He was not even interested in the does. Cams not showing squat for bucks yet. May have to do with it's just SO wet?
Cold n windy here. Doesn't feel like a good time to go but... It's my birthday. I've killed P&Y young bucks on the 27-28-30 n 31 St but never on the 29 the so, I gotta go
Spoke with my neighbor/hunting buddy yesterday. He is not seeing any of our big bucks either. Acorns have all completely fallen so I'm thinking it's that time of year that the big boys are feeding close to bedding and not getting around too much. Watched the younger bucks starting to semi chase and pester does the other night. So basically it's just a matter of time before the big guys start to slip up. I think when this weather moves out and clears up it will be on like donkey kong..
Sat in what I figgered may be the very best spot ever in 40 years of bowhunting. Was almost giggity while sitting only to see just does n fawns. Buck movement here is slow but the switch is about to get flipped.
Pulled in late today in Iowa, and weather delayed me a few hours. Seen one ok buck so far on the ride it..starting at it tomorrow morning after hopefully a good night sleep. I am still loopy after 16 hours of windshield time
Seen two shooter bucks today, both with does . Every scrape looks like it hasnt been hit in couple days . Think it's going to be fast or famine?
I seen ONE deer tonight. He was a beauty but was 45 yards away. 15 to far for me. This same stand last year was crawling with deer. Only difference is this year, there's way more water ( swamp)
Funny you say that. I looked at two different areas that have two and three scrapes apiece and only one of the scrapes had fresh maybe day old marks in it. The buck I'm chasing is getting close to stepping out in daylight. I backed out early this morning bc the wind started to shift and it just felt like a good time to split. Heading back out early, I have a nanny doe that has a free ticket to the pass through show if I see her. She has me pretty dialed in from a mistake the other night.
Got about an hour and half left. Today been fantastic. I was covered up in deer this morning, seen 5 bucks. Passed a chip shot on a 125-30 nine pointer. Seen a 140 plus 8 in the distance about 160 yards out. Went to hang stand a mid day and I spooked another shooter diving in. Didnt see what he was expect BIG. I am hunting a stand with a cross wind tonight since tomorrow I am hunting the north end of the farm. Three miles as crow flys. I wasn't in my stand 10 minutes and doe comes by with an mature 8, looked like a 4 year old deer. Maybe 130ish Passed him at 40. Another small 8 came into the picture and the good buck came back a couple times to run him off got a decent look at him, happy I passed.
Sounds like " it's on" Jimmy. Sat for 45 minutes this afternoon but calm n swirly winds made me bail. Spent the next few hours calling coyote too no avail.
