The more often I hang and hunt the more I appreciate climbing into a pre-hung, pre-trimmed stand that's all ready to go. It's fun to hunt new spots and do new things but man, it's a lot of work! Especially when you're also carrying camera equipment and hiking up some of these monster bluffs in NE Iowa. I about died last week and I only went 1/2 mile.

I have the opportunity to hunt preying stands on my dad's property. But I have found most success on the run and gun. Nothing beats fresh sign in my opinion.

Being mobile is by far my favorite way to go about hunting. It’s keeps my areas fresh and it’s more fun to me. I still have a few proven producers that I prehang for rut stands that I’ll hunt a time or 2, but after that they are generally done to me.

Tomorrow I’m going to add the wrinkle of a kayak to my mobile excursions. Found some good sign last week where chest waders don’t quite cut it for access.

Get after them Brett! I’m excited to give it a try. I won’t look nearly as silly in the ‘yak as I did with with water coming over the tops of my waders trying to reach this spot lol.
