I hung a stand yesterday I am lucky in that I can drive my pick up out to the plot and use an extension ladder to put up my stands and steps. Hats off to those that hike in and set up and take it down every hunt.
I second that. I use my four wheeler and set mine up for the season. I will still throw a climbing stand on my back and go if I find something really good. Might happen once a year for me. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Man you guys are lucky! I’m a haul in on my back and hang. Some stands are over 1.5 miles on public land in Ohio. Past two years I used my deer hauler and it makes life way easier until you come to a down tree then all bets are off, home pa farm I drive my truck to the general area then carry in. I started using a lineman belt last year and makes a world of difference
I'm the same. I hang and tare down, every hunt. Think it's going on 3 - 4 years now and it's become 2nd nature now. I even do it on the private property I hunt just to keep myself moving and keep other hunters from sitting my stands. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Hanging up the hanging stand due to some health issues plus the wife says I don't need to hang one and climb up. "Yes, dear!" It's my ground blind or stalking deer in about two weeks. Next week is taken which is the delay.
Back in the day. I use to hang all my lock on stands with climbing spurs. Nobody could hunt them. I just carried my spurs. Been at least 15 to 20 years ago when I gave that up. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
I am not afraid of anything but I do not care for heights, I strap my stands to the tree 3 more places than what comes with the stand and the ladder steps are strapped to the tree with ratcheting straps every section, could not imagine doing that every sit.
It sure is enjoyable when you have all your sets preying for you the year. I miss those days that I used have 20 sets all out
Sometimes it is a lot like a fight getting into a new, not so great but in the right spot tree covered in poison ivy after 40 minutes of hiking in as quietly as possible. Then do it agaaaain! But yeah, set stands sound good sometimes. Sent from my SM-G960U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Hell Sota, I'm just glad your able too hunt this year I've seen SO many friends over the years lose interest in hunting that were very avid hunters. They'd come up with a lame excuse why they could go. Bottom line, iffn you wanna go, you'll find a way to do it. May not be perfect but the desire will overcome alot of hardships. I do he you can get out and enjoy a few sits.
I have ladder stands that stay up all year, but I find myself chasing the deer with my climber more often than not.
This year will be my 1st year having to setup/takedown situation. I also have the pleasure of having my own property backed up public land. My hikes in/out and setup/takedown, won't as bad. For those guys who don't have that option, HATS OFF!
I hunt a combination of permanent/pre-hung stands on private and hang n’ bang on public. I look at it as an indicator of how out of shape I’m in. When it starts to feel like I’m giving it all I got just to hang a freaking stand.... I know I need to get my ass back in the gym. I will say though there is technique to it. If done with linesman belt and good form it makes life a lot easier
All this hassle is exactly why I switched to saddle hunting; all of the variables and mobility of hang and hunt, less than 1/3 the weight. Every hunt can be in a new area or new tree, and I never have to invest the money in multiple tree stand set ups. Yeah, I drank the kool-aid, and I love it.
