I've been standing in the climber for about hour or better. Sit down 10 minutes later 2 does show up over my right shoulder. They walk right down the trail I came in surprisingly. Needless to say no shot and they wandered off through the thick stuff. The past couple times Mr. Buck has been about an hour behind according to trail cam. Back on my feet I guess.

Got here at 6:10, by the time I get gear around it will be 10:00. Not pushing it I have a long up hill walk back. I'm not too sore and things to do before afternoon hunt. GL ..

looks like a spot I hunt in MI- big tall maples and poplars with almost no understory. Would be a food desert but there's a couple apple trees and 2 big oaks. It ends up being one of my favorite spots because it's also a funnel between ag on the east, CRP north and south, and and thick woods to the west.

I scouted about a 100 more yards on top that ridge and found phenomenal feed sign. That is the 1st time this year that I have found something like that. white oaks raining down and deer crap everywhere

You would think wouldn't you, though I've taken most of my buck from that small section. No poplar but plenty of beech. Remember sandwiched by food on all sides and bedding . Then you have 150 red oak on one side. It's a main travel route up and down the hill then side to side across the hill. Major escape route from hunters around us.
I could have shot this mornings buck but he was a short tined 6.

Guys I'm having a tough time. That buck got to me last night. All I can think about is when I'm going to get back out there. Tonight is a no go, family stuff. Tomorrow I could hunt, but it's supposed to have 2" of rain and by my sit Sunday, the deer didn't move in the rain. Then Thursday is start of a 3 day buck only muzzle loader seaon and you have to make reservations to hunt, which I didn't. Going to suck to wait a week to hunt him again.

I'm in. I'm right where 5 doe were feeding an hour and a half before the end of legal last night. I was about 60 yards away. I didn't shoot when I should have (a couple came to 30) and then I did shoot when I shouldn't. Right through the briscit. Then, big mama came right over to me, and though I was quite sure the one I hit was not mortally wounded, I couldn't take the chance. So I waited, got my arrow, gave it my best effort, but to no avail. A mere fleshwound. My view tonight... 15711670778587616383906405879569.jpg

Wait it out till next week. the three day muzzleloader season pressure pushes the mature bucks back into that swamp/marsh.... I think you are still Golden bro!!! That three day muzzleloader season might actually be your saving grace!

Oh, and I should mention, this is my last Maine hunt for a couple weeks. Headed to Ohio for a 8 day hunt (not counting travel days). Our 15th annual trip, the highlight of our season. My next live hunt will be in Ohio on Thursday night. Signal permitting, I will check in, but it's usually terrible back in the public. Just like here in Maine, we'd love a big one, but nothing gets a pass.

I'd be right back in there, rain or shine. No way I'd be waiting a week if I knew where they were spending most of their time....

I completely agree with Joe on that one, Holt. That may be what really packs em in there. It sucks waiting. I hate waiting. I am at work waiting. I hate waiting.

That's normally what I do, don't stop til I get them. But he didn't move in the rain the other night. Then once the 3 day muzzle loader starts, I can't be there. I hoping the rain let's off tomorrow evening just enough to a hunt in.

That was pretty much what I was thinking. This buck lives there all year and knows how to hide, just not from me. Lol. I had 4 encounters out of 5 sits with him last year. He was very speratic last year and always walked different trails. I found his late season bed also, it's about impossible to hunt, can only sit trails and hope.

Will the 2" of rain ruin the cattail bedding? Won't there be a lot of standing water in there if it rains that much?
