I wasn’t planning on going in there yet so I might hold off. I hope you get a buck AND a doe lol Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Oh I’ll get both before it’s over. Just not sure when the bucks will show up to my spot. Last two years it was around oct 20th so we’ll see. I’m going to go check cams early in the morning while it’s raining. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
This morning was a dud. High wind and acorns are everywhere so the deer are just meandering around hoovering acorns. I saw a half a dozen does but none came into range as they were moving around like so many Roombas. Tomorrow looks like a wash out - which bodes well for the end of the acorn eating season - and is desperately needed around here as we are deep in a drought. This rain should be just what we've been praying for to get the crops that have been planted to start sprouting. I'll be taking a day off from the stand as I've got some other things to get done and I plan on being back in the stand on Saturday morning. The E-SE wind is absolutely perfect for the Apple Tree Stand. The neighbor in town with the apple tree is almost out of apples. We gathered up a half a 5 gallon bucket off the ground after the wind today and it looks like there's maybe another bucket or two higher up in the tree and then that game will be played out. I'll probably sneak out there tomorrow afternoon just to dump off the apples we gathered to sweeten the stand up a bit for Saturday morning as long as I can get across the field after the rain that is. If it's too wet to drive my van across or walk without sinking to my ankles I'll get the ATV out and still be able to get there on Saturday morning!
There’s nothing worse than going to check your cams and the batteries are dead . Only got a few pics on each one. There were some new scrapes pop up so I’ll be out in the morning regardless. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I’m probably going out tonight. Haven’t decided exactly what I’m doing yet. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Hey gents checking in. Scheduled off every Thursday and Friday in November. Now just gotta find a buck in daylight.
I’m headed back to the same spot, wind wrong for the other one. A big doe or anything that would make Pope and young will do here. One more doe and I’ll be on the antler hunt. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
We are leading this contest, guys... I’ve been on a winning team before and to be able to stay together as a team is better than any shirt or hat they may give you Let’s finish it! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Heading out in the morning. Hopefully I’ll be able to get a point or two. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Got skunked today, not surprised after the commotion we made getting the doe out. Stand is out. When I get the right wind I’m going in. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Morning looks perfect for the apple tree stand. 40°F around sunrise and almost no wind blowing out of the East. As the deer move through that area N-S any that move in front of me will will give me a shot and any behind me won't know I'm there. I'll take either the first decent doe or DDT if he shows up. If I can put a doe down quickly I'll hang out looking to make it a double. Deer are moving quite a bit with the cold snap. I got my first deer of the season this evening ... but with a Ford, so I don't think I have to count it.
Id sure love to be in a stand today...goodluck to anyone out there this weekend. Hoping to get out sunday after work but the wife is cracking down a little since i cant use the excuse of "we need meat" anymore hahaha Sent from my LML212VL using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I underestimated how cold it was going to be this morning! I just wore a base layer and a medium weight pair of pants and shirt ... froze my tuchus off. Did not see one deer once it was light. I did hear one or more munching on apples below me, but just as it was starting to get light a pack of coyotes started howling up on the hill several hundred yards behind me -- and that was the end of deer sightings for the day.
It’s to windy to hunt today. 30mph gusts. I might take a walk with my dog on a different area and see what I see. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Next week I should have seven days to hunt, remotes look promising, also my sons driving up from NC, so it could be his first. Sent from my iPad using Bowhunting .com Forums
Had a fun evening hunt. I moved to the stand I have right at the bottom of the creek bed. It's in an elm tree about 20' above the creek and maybe 10' or so above the top of the banks. I had three 2 or 3 year old 8 point bucks come in and walk down the bank and into the creek for a drink and then continue walking right below me. I was hoping for a nice doe to shoot, but these young bucks were fun to watch. Right at the end of legal shooting light I had a buck somewhere maybe 40 or 50 yards off to the East of me just attacking a tree. It sounded like a full blown antler rattling fight going on! That will get your heart beating as it's starting to get dark.
Well the boy decided it was time for me to get up....so he made my decision for me. Going deep today on my public land. May make it an all day event. Think I'm gonna sit on the edge of what I hope is bedding with oaks round it then through the day keep pushing back looking for sign. These are my favorite kinds of hunts because I learn even more about the land im on. Wish me luck. Im sure I'll need it! Sent from my LML212VL using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
