Well work has finally let up for awhile so I plan on hitting the woods more. I have had only three sits this year so far, lotsa doe with fawn and smaller bucks seen within range. Four day weekend so I am planning to get out a few times. Cameras have been soaking for a few months so I need to pull some cards to see what bucks I have hanging around. I am sure "Stickers" a buck I have chased for last few years is there, saw his big butt at 60 yards at last light on my first sit but could not get a clear shot. Cooler weather has finally set in here but we are in a drought so I am sure that will play with deer movement. I may hit my creek stand in the morning and see who is thirsty !!! good luck and be safe guys !!! Dave
Today's morning sit I saw a small buck and 8 turkeys. This evening I saw 1 doe, no shot. I will be getting out Friday morning as well.
I’ve always wondered if I could pressure nocturnal deer into going dayturnal by spending a week or so and every night forcing myself to wake up for an hour between midnight and 4 am and going for a noisy walk through the woods. Similar to how you can pressure them into going nocturnal because they know you’re always there when it’s light except instead of that you convince them that you are the one that’s nocturnal so that they start coming out during the day to avoid you.
Yea, always been afraid to test it out since it would probably just blow out the spot for the season, but if it worked it would be a game changer.
Ran the ground game and scouted in the rain tonight. I bumped a shooter buck out of his bed at 6:30. I tried getting down wind in case he wanted to J hook around but he never did. I’m pretty sure he winded me and saw me so I don’t feel very confident about hunting that need tomorrow. Big cold front moved in, probably try to get on something behind the house.
Well had a shot but I blew it. Hit a doe yesterday but I’m pretty sure I gutted her, and then bumped her. Searched for hours with no avail. The good news is I had my bow looked at and apparently I had it pretty well out of tune. I shall have words with my bowshop that allegedly tuned it when I get home. So nothing to report on my fun filled travel weekend. Sadly I lost a pretty nice doe. Shot placement matters, above all else. I’ll be out Tuesday at home so hopefully something nice to report then.
