I got a little Doe tonight. With the surgery I had to use my Crossbow and my son-in law had to Cock it for me. I got with in 40 yards and had a slightly quartering away shot. She dropped in her tracks.

16164A97-90F3-42FD-B8FF-97255A8FB791.jpeg Son and I ran out to check a couple cams this evening and counted 20 does and 9 bucks in a 10 mile round trip. Things are looking good around the house.
Got this guy sneaking through. He’s by far not the biggest out there.
    Clock is off a little.

Clipped a corn stalk last night and it caused a clean miss on a giant 8 and to make things worse my in-laws call and say he was out eating in the bean field this morning when I couldn’t make it back out!

Friday I saw 8 does and three bucks. I was about to draw on a mature doe at 40 yds, when I saw 2 Gigantors come from the north of the field. One I have on camera, I think. Hard to tell, because they only came within 80 or 90 yds at dusk. Good thing is they gave me intel. I set a blind up to the north west for a southeast wind and they came within 15-20 yds of a tree I cleared for my Lonewolf for a N-NW wind. The doe lived, she can thank the two bucks. They were just crash players those tines together, buck music style!

Well, last night I took my oldest son out for a private land doe only early rifle hunt, trying to get him his first deer. We had one doe at about 50 yards. Unfortunately, she had us pegged in the blind and we could not move my son into position without spooking her off. I shot and missed. I have no idea how I missed at 50 with a rifle. I thought I had finally had some success with my son there, but not to be. He had a great attitude about it, but it was disappointing to see his excitement at finally having a shot opportunity and then not getting the deer. Oh well, another day.

5 does and a fork horn this morning. I had the lead doe at 35-40 yds. South to North trail with WNW wind, coming on a string. Right side or left side of the next tree will tell the story. She picked right side and picked up some of my ground scent, but did not wind me, Grrrrr! So she made an informed decision to go straight left into the CRP with other 4 following. They circle south, so I tried some fawn “Hey I am lost bleats”, but no go! The week does not look good for weather, might try Wednesday.

I just can't figure out this year. Little sign, few tracks even in my crazy spots.

We've had no real rain, till last weekend, since Aug. I've hunted acorns and over water, but not a single deer spotted in the woods yet. Granted all morning till early afternoon sits. But picking spots with food or water and favorable winds.

Sat is calling for afternoon rain and an odd wind from the west. I've got two (or 3) odd spots I'm considering, both heavy pines and public land:
    1) deer spotted last week across the road in an open field feeding, I know the deer travel the pines as the other side of the field are boardered by water, roads and homes. Pines were partially cut (harvest attempt) about 5 years ago, but abandoned as they weren't mature enough.
    2) small 2x2 mile national forest block I scouted during spring turkey season. Half clear cut past winter with logging roads overgrown with clover. 2 spots caught my eye: a) briars corner tucked just inside the standing trees close to the clear cut and close to private (recently selective harvest). A lot of game trail and browsing. b) mature stands of pines on opposite side with skat, rubs and tracks...
