At 1822 I had 3 does come in quick & on a string. The 1st walked directly under the stand. The 2nd stopped & smelled every single weed I brushed up against & I mean every weed before walking under the stand as well. The 3rd stopped at 8 yards & walked away, none of them detected me or looked up at me. Crazy

The last time I was in Kentucky I did my morning sits in a small patch of woods we call the "Front Woods". It's been my primary spot for a long time.

My brother and I have hunted that patch for a long time and no one else has ever been there. A couple of you might remember the triple I got there in 2017.

I noticed some bait piles while I was moving my stand and I notified the farmer and asked him to contact his uncle who owns it to see if they were placed by someone who had permission to be there.

It turns out that the farmer' cousins are hunting there and we have to abandon it.

    Bummer.

The farmer felt bad and offered me the chance to hunt their old home farm where his Grandmother lives. No one else hunts it and I'm trying to figure out how best to approach hunting this place. He said that it is absolutely crawling with deer.

I'm attaching a pic with the boundaries outlined and the two ponds marked with blue dots.

Pretty sure it was all in soybeans this year which have all been cut.

Next trip I will check the neighboring properties to see if any of them are picked corn fields, but other than that do you guys have any suggestions on how to approach hunting this farm?

Hey Chief. Tough to say without seeing what all is around this property. Definitely an "edge" property. Wonder where they deer bed mostly? Is this a flat property or is there some south facing slopes? Oak timber? I put a few red dots on areas I'd look at if I was hunting there. It all depends on what is around the place. JMO.

Definitely a strong argument for numerous deer cameras
I’m talking a dozen or so just to learn the property

Since I haven't really set foot on it yet I can't say what kind of trees are in the wood patches. This area is notorious for hickory trees but some patches have a lot of white oaks. I'll have to take a look but I don't want to stomp it all up scouting.

As to what's around it, if you go to Google Maps and search for Keough Equipment Sales on Hwy 94 it should bring up the map right at that area and you can see what's around it and also look at the terrain map. I didn't see any south facing slopes. There is one slope in the larger patch of woods that faces SW.

A couple of years ago that wouldn't have been a problem, but the wife and I have both retired since then. It'll be difficult to convince her that I need a dozen trail cameras on top of the price of the home tags, the Kentucky tags and the Arkansas tags.

I do have two cameras I could set out there. I did have three until someone stole one a few weeks ago.

Funny how that’s works some days...what’s your “scent control” routine?

I pulled the four I had out but if you need some I can certainly ship all I got (9) down to you.....seriously. You will need a boat load of C cell batteries and SD cards but they are available.

That is a very generous offer Brett and I really do appreciate it, but I wouldn't want to put you through a lot of trouble and I certainly wouldn't want to risk some of them disappearing or getting damaged.

It's supposed to rain in Kentucky Thursday and Friday. I suppose those would be good days to put on some rain gear and see what I can find in those wood patches. I'm sure the bucks will be doing some rubbing now but I don't think they would be making scrapes this far south yet.

Like I said before, if there are picked corn fields anywhere close they will be going there to eat and coming back to bed. If there aren't any cut corn fields close I'll be looking for oaks that are dropping and try to get between any mast crop I can find and one of the ponds.

On another note, I have been playing chess with the does around here. The lasts five or six sits here at home I haven't seen a single deer.

I didn't hunt this morning for two reasons: #1 - I was lazy. #2 - Later today I start prepping for the dreaded colonoscopy tomorrow and figured I could use the rest.

I did go and check my two cameras and wouldn't you know it? There were does in front of both empty stands this morning between 7:00 and 8:30.

Went out last evening. Saw two doe and a small basket buck. All were together about 45 yards to my right and on the wrong side of the fence. I think my genes are going bad as I have seen a spike, a forky and now a basket buck....not good
