NY opens tomorrow. I think I can get out for the opener in the afternoon and maybe Thurs afternoon. Mom back in the hospital, so we shall see.
Opener here in IL is looking hot and windy so I may sit it out. After Kentucky I've had enough bowhunting in the heat for this year. Looks like decently cool temps starting on Thursday, thank goodness.
Opening weekend was a bust, I knew I was wasting my time hunting in this heat, oh well. I saw a few yesterday evening and was busted by a nanny doe, hard to keep the stink down when your sweating you butt off. I will not be out until the weekend of the 11th, which is perfect since it is starting a cool streak around that same time. My first Illinois trip will be the 18-20th, I'm quite excited about that one, I like seeing those Illinois deer.
now calling for rain for NY opener. Hopefully it will break for the afternoon and they'll move. won't hear em.
this is going to be a long week, my dad went up and pulled the cameras at our property and i have some of my hitlisters in the plots in daylight!
weather breaking, but wind direction is not ideal for my NY spot. I may hunt CT instead. I'll make a game time decision.
Y'all complaining about the heat is funny to me. It's hot down here until November usually. Weather is showing to have a cool front coming in this weekend. Going from mid-upper 90s down to the mid-low 80s, so that will be nice. Seen a nice buck yesterday on my drive home from work around 7:30pm. I'm hoping I can get out early today for an evening sit where I had an encounter over the weekend.
i feel your pain, I hunted in NC during years in college and hated that heat, being in the mid 70s and 80s in november sucked!
Hi guys! Sorry I've been MIA. I've been in Colorado chasing the bulls around. After 105 miles hiking, I finally was able to connect on this bull at 20 yards. We had the perfect the setup with my hunting partner behind me calling and the bull walked by at 20 yards through a pinch point. He went 220 yards before piling up. Hopefully I can keep the momentum going and focus on putting one down on my farm. Looks like a cold front coming through this weekend. Good Luck guys!
congrats rednas! That is a beautiful animal. That is on my bucket list someday! was it a DYI hunt? leaving the office in 15 min to get in a tree by 4pm... can't wait.
Yes sir it was. I went with a group of guys who have been going to the area for 20 years so they know the trails and lay of the land. I have been elk hunting 5 times before but really put in the work this time. I focused on understanding calling and using the thermals to my advantage. I trained hard and still my feet took a beating from the miles put into hunting for 7 days straight. I can't wait to get back out there next year!
