I’m not a big fan of elitism. Who cares how many trophies you have? I’d give you a new one right now but you probably won’t want it! “1st place internet troll of the day!” OP. Your kid is fine with what he is shooting! 1. Just make sure your broadheads are razor sharp. Probably want a fixed blade. 2. Have your kid practice and practice till he can hit the right spot all the time. Practice at different angles that you may get for a shot. Arrows don’t hit with much energy at all. Do the actual math and you’ll realize this. They work by cutting and hemorrhaging. A rifle bullet can kill or cause damage from energy dispersion, an arrow won't. Pretty simple. Good luck and have fun with your kid!
he shoots just about every day. from the tree stand at different angles and distances. Same thing I been doing for 30 years. Its amazing how it helps. I got him shooting 2 blade 100 gr stingers. 12 yards and in he's in the vitals 100% of the time. Thanks brother!
As bowhunters we all need your son to be one of us. Took me till my kid was 24 to get him interested in deer hunting. We need to recruit all we can.
Few questions.. you own 5 compounds and 4 crossbows? What are they and can we see pics. Tell us about the tournaments, I'm sure you remember every detail... I would as its a big deal winning first place. Lastly.... You brag about been hunting since 15 yet that is saying you are bragging about not even 10 years of experience? On a forum with many that have hunted for the last 10-20-30 and in a few cases 50 years.
As for OP and the question. He will be fine. Of course aim small miss small and be cognitive of distance, but done correctly 35 will kill and possibly pass though. Good luck share his success
That's great, Remember for the first few encounters it's tough and shots will not be perfect so the tighter the baseline setting out the better.
Knew a Woman shooting a 38lb recurve, She had killed a bunch of deer and bear size animals with it. The key as others have stated is shot placement (looks like he shooting pretty good) and a good sharp 2 blade broadhead. Good luck to you 2 this season.
Also I see your already doing this, but definitely alot of practice shots on a life size deer target. I can remember doing this when I was his age and it help alot! Not only in shot placement, also mentally prepare for that shot on a live deer. Something that was fun that we did as kids was play horse, like the basketball game. Put a dot on the deer target. 1st person goes and everyone else has to do that shot. Closest to spot gets to pic the next shot. Also fun to place target in woods so you have to shoot over limbs and around trees and thru brush. It was alot of fun, but also teaches you to be able to take a ethical shot when a deer may not be in the perfect spot. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Illinois law is 35lbs. It used to be 40lb draw when i was a kid. They recently lowered it. I still mess around with my kid bow it will easily take down a deer at 20yrds. He will be fine. Go put a big one down jr!!! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
