That's a big bear for central 'Sconnie!

Nothing this AM, and I'm home and most likely done until October.

I grazed a doe last night. Estimated her range right at 40, quartering away. I aimed right at her heart thinking if she ducks I'm golden, if she doesn't I'm ok, and if my range is short I'll completely miss low.

I was almost right on the last part. She didn't duck, and I shorted her by 3 yards (I ranged it after.) But it wasnt a complete miss. The arrow went right under her brisket and clipped her offside leg. She took off like a scalded dog and smacked a logger's brush pile, fell down, then hightailed it out of there.

I found my arrow straight away beyond her, buried halfway and some hairs; and a tiny smear of blood on one side of one vane. I searched around and no additional blood. I was able to follow her trail through the grass and brush for a good bit and found no additional blood. I know all I did was clip that offside leg so she'll be OK. Pretty sure her encounter with the brush pile hurt worse than the arrow.

As of right now, I bought an H2 saddle for $170 and 3 Hawk Helium sticks for $97. I plan on modifying the sticks like many people do just not sure if I'll get around to it this season.

I am in the process of building a platform from an old lock-on seat, should run about $30-50 or so once done. I have tether and linesman's belt.

Guys my area is being pounded on currently from the storm, here is a picture of rainfall totals the last 72 hours and current radar shows in the red until at least 3 this afternoon. Keep SETX in your thoughts this afternoon.

2 years ago Harvey did massive damage and gave us anywhere from 50-60" of rain in a 3 day span. Many people still haven't moved back into their homes from that storm due to all the original damage from flood waters and rebuilding. LOTS OF PEOPLE flooded now.

I just pulled the trigger on one of these. Built in Brighton, MI, under $200, and the only manufacturer out there that's not 6-8 week turnaround time. I hope to be using it by November.

I plan on using the top section of my LW climber as a platform for this season. If I like it enough I will be selling the climber in the offseason and making a different platform.

    anybody still hunting? Junior?
I believe a couple seasons open this weekend. KJ?

I have to pay it forward a bit and me and the wife are heading to California this weekend to visit her sister. I asked if I could take my bow so me the the BiL could head out for some hogs and the look I got was....frosty.

I will be heading to central MI next Thursday, though. Should be up there in time to set up the camper, grab lunch and hit the woods for the evening hunt.

    Stellar opening weekend weather.... NOTTTTT

Yes sir, I'll be headed to deer camp Friday afternoon. It feels good all the final preparations have been done, so literally all we have to do is show up and set up the generator and kick back and have a few cold ones! CANNOT WAIT!

I'll be out this weekend for our opener either hunting myself or taking my 9 yr old son out. I've got a few bucks on cam I'd like to target with him. One high 130's 8pt believed to be a 4 yr old and a 5 yr old 9pt that didn't do anything headgear wise since last fall. Weather man is calling for mid to high 80's and humid. Not ideal but they are showing up on cam pretty regular.

I could be wrong, but I don't think the heat really bothers them or affects movement much until it snaps back to hot after being cool for a while. They've been used to being out in the heat all summer, I saw deer last week that still had mostly their red summer coats.

Good luck to everybody that's going out this weekend, let's get on the board!
