Congrats on the doe! I've passed on 4 already today. Don't feel like messing with them while I'm out of town.
No luck this morning but just climbed up in a new spot I scouted during lunch, got some major deer trails through this area, now just need a big doe to come down one! Got back from the WMA around 2pm and went to sit in a ground blind on a farm I have permission to hunt. Seen about 20 deer (does, fawns, and small bucks) from 5:30 til dark. Almost had one of the mature does, but she tuned into the oaks before presenting a shot. Had one of the small bucks at 10yds browsing in the field. Maybe tomorrow morning the local WMA will produce better results.
Good morning fellas! Got back from Kentucky yesterday but unfortunately, all I brought back were a few ticks and a nasty case of poison ivy. Ended up going to the urgent care to get some prednisone yesterday as I didn't feel like toughing this one out. Made the mistake of climbing into a tree on Thursday afternoon that was covered in the stuff. No idea how I missed it, but I did. Outside of that, the trip was great. It was HOT as heck and pretty miserable at times, but we had a blast and saw some deer. I had a shooter come out into the field at very last light on Friday but he was about 5 minutes too late and 10 yards too far. Went back in after him on Saturday thinking they would move earlier due to a 15-degree temp drop, but no such luck. Next up for me is IL which opens in 2 weeks. I still have some work to do getting stands prepped and checking a couple of cameras. We'll see if there's anything worth chasing early or if it will purely doe duty the first few weeks. Congrats to those that have been successful and good luck to everyone else! The best time of the year is finally here.
Luckily for me, I recognized what I had done and ran to Walmart after the hunt to buy some poison ivy wash (Tecnu). I scrubbed pretty good and got a lot of the oil off, but obviously I missed some. Thankfully I did that or it would have been much worse. I'm on Prednisone pills for the next 6 days and already feeling pretty good. Rash has gone way down and there's only minor itching and irritation. All things considered, I got out pretty easy. Now I just need to figure out how to wash the oil off my harness, backpack, climbing sticks, stand, camera gear, etc. I'm sure it's everywhere. I'm most likely going to toss the straps on my stand/sticks and just get some new ones. The rest I'll try to wash in a big rubbermaid tub with Dawn, then ozone the crap out of it. We'll see if that does the trick or if I'm fighting this crap all fall.

ruttnutt scored in NJ today, first one in the family to draw blood, he has a 2 deer lead on me this season. Hell it's still 2 weeks till season opens here.
Glad your feeling better. I'm lucky I have never had it, the daughter (grown woman now) gets it just from standing down wind of it, the wife gets it also, but not as bad as the daughter and the prednisone pack clears it up in a few days.
I’m lucky as well, not allergic to the stuff! That also usually means I’m designated stand hanger but that’s always fun for me Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
One time (only one) a long time ago I threw my hunting jacket on our bed and unknown to me it had poison ivy oil on it. My wife ended up w/ a very bad case b/c it got on the blanket. Didn't go well for me. She can also get it from being downwind or anywhere near the stuff. I barely breakout even if I get into it. It can be nasty stuff and I'm told if you don't get the oil off, you can get it again. I learned exactly what it looked like after that. It seems the best hunting trees have it wrapped around it.
