On further review ... that's a different deer. The one in velvet I posted a couple of days ago appears to be more mature, have some more mass, and has some more character on the right hand side.
Sounds like options man! We all seem to have those one way or another. I have to confess though that I've never shot a buck I have pictures of hahaha honestly it's probably mainly due to the fact i try to get a doe or two first and dont go right after them like I should. Always feel like im going to miss out if I tag out on bucks early. You just never know though! Sent from my LML212VL using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I would take that long tine at first opportunity, patients is one thing But that’s a don’t think shoot moment. Great dear. . Sent from my iPad using Bowhunting.com Forums
I agree lol i see tines like that coming at me it's an immediate hammer down moment. But to each of their own! Everyone's pickle doesn't tickle the same ha Sent from my LML212VL using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Funny how that works. When I lived in SC and was hunting public land I was much more of a if it's brown it's down mentality. Here in Texas in my first couple of years I shot bucks that I put on the wall that are in the 120's. Now I know that there are P&Y bucks taken in this area every year - so I've vowed to start being a bit more picky. At church this morning I showed that tall 8 to the guy who lives on the next ranch over from the property where the photo was taken. He said that he's seen that deer, but that's not the one he's after. Evidently there's a much wider deer with double drop tines showing up too. Sent from my SM-G892A using Tapatalk
Hey i know what you mean there. I have yet to shoot one smaller than the last. I dont go into the season saying I'm not shooting one unless it's bigger. It just happens. My subconscious doesn't let me lol knowing what's lurking here in Ohio...all my good deer were all on the first sit in the area and I had no clue how big they were. Just hunted their sign..i watch countless bucks. Even ones I say I'll take preseason...partially why I picked up a camera this year. But I truly think I'm ready to get one down hahah didn't end last Year with a tag but only because I took a late season doe to fill the tag in my pocket. I love those ones that you dont even have to second guess though! Sent from my LML212VL using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Well. I set some more cams out today then checked two others. Bunch of doe and one decent buck. I usually don’t see any bucks on this property until oct 15 or so. So having one already is exciting. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
See why I'm a bit hesitant to shoot a very nice 8 that might be for some a deer of a lifetime? This is by far the nicest deer I've seen around here. I had a single drop tine a couple of years ago that I let walk thinking he was only a three year old. This one is not going to get that kind of privilege if he shows up. I don't see any ear tags so he's not an escaped breeder - that makes him fair game. I'm glad I'm one of only two serious bowhunters I'm aware of in the area. This guy is not likely to live more than a day or two once rifle season opens up. The neighbor's feeder where this photo was taken is probably less than 500 yards from my stand and the camera where the other photos came from.
Yeah I definitely don’t think he is a yearling. I’ve joked about it but looks at least 2 from body and comparison to others in the area
