Did a quick salon 40 bleach on the skull let sit in the sun all day to get the skull white. Scrubbed the antlers with dial. Let dry then used #2 antler stain. Did one coat and it looks damn good. What do you all think. Sent from my SM-G920P using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
ive done some euros the old school way, simmer then remove material, i used oxyclean made into a paste once on a skull, didnt do much. and i didnt even know there was antler stain....
Yea the salon 40 in the sun does a quick job and a large bottle of it is like 6 bucks. The antler stain most taxidermy supply stores have and online. About 15 bucks and you can probably do 40 sets of antlers with 1 bottle or maybe more. I have stained several sets and barely used a quarter bottle. It really turns those lighter antlers a more chocolate color and is very nice on mounts on the wall. They add some shine to the antlers which give it some pop on the mount as well.
Last one I did from a buck I shot I cleaned as much meat as I could from the skull then boiled with the antlers sticking out of the water. Every little while I would pull it out of the water and use needle nose pliers to pull chunks from the skull. Then back in water. Did this until the skull was free of meat. Next day I coated the skull in salon 40 and sat in the sun for about 6 hours and repeated the salon 40 until the desired brightness. Once the skull is done you can leave the antlers if you want or you can give them a stain. I personally like both looks of the stain vs no stain but the stain works wonders on things like this dead head or light antlers you want to add some color too. 1 coat is great and 2 makes it pretty dark if you like the dark racks.
Cheapest way to hang a euro. A walmart coat hook works great and is about 2 bucks Sent from my SM-G920P using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
im going to get some antler stain and do some of my smaller ones and see how it turns out before doing my bigger ones
Yea I would try it out on some lighter sets you have and see if you like it. I used #2 antler stain on this one. And these were pretty white.
