I’m slammed at work and it’s a hunert degrees so regrettably deer hunting is far from my mind here lately. I hope to reform myself at some point.
I've been busy. Great uncle died and having to go to effin Dallas tomorrow night for his funeral Saturday. He was 91 so we knew it was coming but it still sucks and I hate funerals.
Sorry bout that man. Hope you get some good time spent with family somehow. Seems like for me that’s about the best I ever hope for out of a loss of a family member.
Sorry 2 hear that Bob. My mother fainted 2 day in the bathroom. She's in I.c.u. now. Pacemaker on Monday I guess. Called and said I love her in case I never get to again.
Hey you Deretlics. I have been assigned to your team. Hopefully I can contribute and help the team ! Jimmy
I hardly hunt NY at all, I may hunt my property about a handful of sits each year. I live about an hour south of Albany. Almost all my bowhunting is in the midwest and west every year. This year I already hunted antople in Colorado and killed an decent lope. In couple weeks I will be woodland caribou and moose hunting in Newfoundland. Then my deer season starts. This year I have a zone 5 Iowa tag. I will be hunting out there from about Halloween to the 15th of November. After that I may fit a couple days in at home in NY. My last plans for the year are a January mule deer hunt in Arizona, I will there about 10-12 daysand hunting with some friends. So I have a little bit of a busy year coming up!
Awesome! I might be in Arizona in January myself to go after OTC muleys and coues deer. Started applying for archery elk last year so need to buy a license anyway. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Sounds like you have an exciting year lined up Jimmy. I hope the EHD devastation going on in Iowa right now doesn’t affect your trip out there.
Good to have you on board Jimmy! Sounds like you have some good hunts lined up. Arizona muley best tasting venison on earth. I think it's all that sagebrush.
So far the Iowa website doenst have cases confirmed in the county that the farm I am hunting is in. I am not stressing it either way. At this point I have the tag and the farm, i am on the hook and I will just hunt and see what happens.
Lol. Shooting long range has never been my strong suit. Grew up dirt poor and would scrounge anything I could. Even too this day, it's a mental mind thing with me. I seldom shoot past 20 yards. Shot a few truck loads of bear and I set up 8-12 yards. It's SO ingrained in me, I've really never tried to become efficient at 35+ yards. Cost me quite a few big deer but .... I'm strong mental wise but I just can't seem to get over the bow shot over 30 yards? I just FEEL I'll screw it up. It's a handicap for sure but one I've live with and most likely will forever.
My first hunting trip out west, (Montana) cured me of that real quick. It was 1996 I think, I played hooky from a week of college classes and went elk hunting. Some topography it sure helps to be able to reach out an touch one a bit. I put it into my mind that I was going to up my shooting game years ago swallowed my pride and hired a coach for lessons. Best money on archery I ever spent.
I shoot well enough to shoot at an Elk at 60-70 yards but I’ve never shot at a whitetail past 25 yds and have no intention of shooting at one past 40 no matter the circumstances. Whitetails are too quick to be shot at with an arrow past 40 yds in my opinion.
