they arent big, in fact they'd be illgeal to shoot where i hunt because of antler point restrictions, but its sure fun to see young healthy bucks around.
Pack is organized and cloths are going through the wash as I type! Just need to stop at Fleet Farm tomorrow morning and grab my licenses and I’m all set for Saturday’s opener.
Good luck this weekend guys! Any target bucks being sought or is meat the main goal? Heat breaks just in time to boot!
Meat for me. We can’t run cams on public in MN, and I hunt in close proximity to the biggest city in the state with lots of other folks. I try to out scout and out work others, and I don’t know what’s out there until it walks by.
i used to go to a church that ran a game feed and outdoor show. wish they still did. great outreach, plus its fun.
Our church does the same thing usually in December. Yall’s setup looks awesome. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
I asked for an alternate to bring us up to 12 members and on a level playing field with the reigning chumps, but we were not given one. We have 2 teams now with 12 members, the rest of us have 11.
It is what it is, it rarely c9mes down to a buck or doe deciding the difference. I was on the 2nd place team in 2017, we'd have won it record breakingly any other year but just wasn't meant to be. Stats show it comes down to does when it really counts. If every member can kill a doe/bonus deer, that's 1/3 of the winning score right there. Once you hit that mark you can dang near take it with scrub bucks and a good one or two. I'm aiming high this year, which means not shooting the first one I see I would love a droptine buck, but in all honesty I've onky ever gotten one on cam when I had them out and never seen one from stand. My number one goal this year is pretty simple. I want to kill a good buck from my late Uncle's favorite stand. He loved his highline stand, which was an old aluminum tube seat with a rope woven seat set in a tree that was near suicidal to climb. I honestly do not know how he managed to to climb it in the dark, I could barely do it in the daylight last time I did, the tree had grown around the round aluminum tubes and you no longer needed straps to hold it in place. He always bragged how he would always kill a good one out of that stand, I always felt a little guilty the fews times I sat in it. Now I feel like I have a duty to carry on his tradition. I won't sit that stand in particular as he built a box blind in its place after being diagnosed with cancer, but come November and especially gun seasons I'll be in that stand, biw in hand.
That sounds like an awesome goal for the season. Especially knowing all the history and memories that have come from it.
Very few things will have me willing to get up before my alarm, at 3:45 in the morning. I’m not catching a flight, nor do I have a baby, so it must be opening day!
this SPYPOINT camera is depressing, soooo many coyote pictures going through orchard. never had a camera there before
As of tomorrow I’m a month away from opening day here in Alabama. I spent the day Limbing roads bush hogging fields and marking stand locations at the Camp.
I'm 20 days away from the first chance I can hunt. I don't do 80's and 90's for temperatures on hunts. I'll make a pledge to the team now, I will enter 2 deer. I'm good for 100 points up to 200+. Depends on how lucky I get with a stupid buck.
Saw 3 tonight and dang near got to draw on a doe. Only to have her blow out due to a squirrel brawl starting up a few trees over. Nice day and happy to be out in the woods again!
May get out this afternoon on my first hunt. Sent from my XT1650 using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Whichever is most convenient for the stand you will be in!! My first few hunts will be with the crossbow as I will be on the ground till I'm comfortable with my dad being in the woods again. Funny, he did the same thing for me when I was 14 just starting to hunt by myself, LOL!! I'll be out wednesday afternoon for my first hunt!!! A lone doe, or any male buck will take an arrow!
