Any tips on ground hunting without a blind? I understand scent control and playing the wind. Any other advice from those who ground hunt?

Ghillie isn’t a must but is highly recommended. I hunt with a ghillie a bit. Portable seat of some kind. Make sure you can draw comfortably sitting and back cover and staying in the shade is super important imo Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
What are you using for a seat? Turkey style chair? Cushion? I have a kryptek grille suit, I suppose this will do fine.
I have used multiple different seats I do like the ameristep swivel tripod stool. I know it gets some bad reviews but I’ve had mine a long time and it’s awesome. I’ve also used a basic butt pad. Knee pads are a great idea. To be completely honest I was going in for a run and gun last season with my saddle set up, liked the cover and shot from the ground in my chosen spot better and I set up my saddle platform as a low hunt seat for the evening. It worked. Killed one at 7 yards. I suppose anything you can draw your bow while staying down would work. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Interesting. My hang-on stand is getting a bit too awkward for my years. Got a ground blind and read this thread with interest. Heard of one hunter who actually dug a hole in the ground with just enough vision to look over the edge of the hole. Not good if it rains, though.
I have a basic camo folding chair I use when hunting. It didn't cost that much (under $15), which is a good thing because I left my previous folding chair on the ground next to my 4x4 one time. Drove back to the spot to pick it up (about 1/2 hour later), and found that some other hunter had already requisitioned it.
O.K. I am giving out my secret ground blind that all Criiters actually accept and use for themselves at times. I have been buying up old artificial xmas trees, usually around 5 bucks each, many are happy to just get rid of them, I make a circle out of these trees, 5 to 6 feet inside diameter, I pound in steel fence poles then cable tie them in, go all the way around, no shortcuts, I have had bucks brush up against my tree,s, I have had deert bed under the branches in snow. much small game also ! I have 3 of these at strategic spots around food plots, and 1 on a main buck trail mostly used during the chase phase, I have arrowed bucks at all locations, only once was I caught, that was by a fawn actually walking into blind, almost in my lap. These also seem to last forever, my last blind cost me $45 for tree,s and $15.00 for poles, I bought a swivel chair at garage sale for $5.00, Top that ! now I gotta take you out !
One of the best places to naturally hide is in the " bowl & fan" on a large up rooted tree. We have large yellow wood, poplars which are shallow rooted on rocky soil. They tip over leaving a lattice of roots as a back drop and a depression where the roots were.
