Went out for a sit in the 90 weather for the urban hunt last night. I was hoping for a chance at a Velvet buck. Unfortunately, the wind was wrong for the areas I scouted on Saturday. I ended up sitting on a bench in a draw with a creek bottom in it. I didn't see anything. Hearing cars driving by and kids playing while hunting is weird. It looked like a nice spot but I think the creek bed was pretty dry at the spot I was in. We haven't had a good rain in almost a month. Acorns were already dropping, probably because the trees don't want to spare the moisture to keep them. They were small and not fully developed.

It wasn't a bad day, just not as good a day as I hoped. It beat the alternative which was to sit at home.
Had a few great days up on the Mountain. My oldest son got a little buck on Friday Morning. He stocked with in 23 yards up hill from it and did a perfect double lung shot. I missed a little 3x2 I got with in 40 yards of him he saw me draw back and jumped my string big time. The Elk are starting to sound off. I got a little 4x4 bull with in 30 yards of me. Between me and my son we got a 320ish 6x6 so upset we were debating to climb up a pine tree to get out of his way. I had one of my sons with his 11 year old daughter hunting down on what we call the piney hill that got into the middle of a little herd of elk. They had a little 5x5 run with in 20 feet of them. None of the cows gave him a shot but There was one spike in the group that stopped maybe 15 feet in front of him but it was in the scrub pines and he couldn't get a shot at it. My granddaughter maybe hooked for life on elk hunting. None of us drew a big bull tag and are OTC tags are just cow or spike elk. I have four sons and three out of the four were up there with me. It was a ball.
That sounds like an awesome weekend. In a few years, I may have to bring my sons out there to experience that for a long labor day weekened.
