I’m good with fletch being captain. My season started yesterday. Had one sit. Saw a doe and a couple fawns. Smaller bucks were out in field closer to dark. No real shooters. I was with family so couldn’t get out as much as I would have liked. Heading out next weekend with a buddy so hunting a little harder.

Best of luck on your surgery and wishing you a quick and full recovery. I did have a lot of fun using the crossbow last year. I think I ended up with one buck and 8 does. I piled them up. lol. I hope to give the vertical bow a try this week and see what my pain tolerance is. CBD cream has been a real blessing for me and has allowed me to do a lot of things with little to no pain.

Good luck on the bear hunt!

I put up some suggestions for team name if you like one say so. We like fletch for captain. I like Magnificent Eleven. ( I think there's 11 of us?) Fletch you're a straight up killer!! Glad you're on my team:)

I live where big bucks circle the stand like flies. It's just point and shoot. That doesn't really make me captain material. I am happy to do it, but only if nobody else wants to wear the skipper cap. Honestly, no worries from me if someone else wants to do it. I saw that teams were drawn and that we did not have a thread yet, so I jumped in to get things rolling.

Sadly, our area has been absolutely hammered by EHD this year. Maybe the worst outbreak ever. Killing a good one may be a bit of a challenge this year, but I will be giving it my best effort. One of the farmers I hunt on told me about two huge bucks he was watching along the edge of a hay field as he put up the first cutting. He called me when he was doing the second cutting and told me that I could forget chasing those two as they were both floating in the pond, dead. I am putting in a two acre Fall plot later today that should be in a great spot. I am still getting a few pictures of a couple mature bucks, so they can't all be dead. Sadly though, I have seen some real giants taken by this horrible disease.

I also like Magnificent Eleven for a name but would be open to anything.

EHD came through my part of NC about 4 years ago. It was terrible. This year I have more deer than I’ve ever had. Too bad nothing big . My biggest is prob 115” or so and the most mature I know about 4+ is only a 6 point, maybe 100”!or so. My other two places have shown. Thing this year either. I run cameras all year. I’m just excited to be on this team. I haven’t been on a team since back when all deer counted and even got bonus points for coyotes and such.

I've been running some spotlight counts where I hunt, seeing a lot of decent bucks but no giants. Gonna be out of state on a rifle hunt for a week after our season opens, and limiting myself to a longbow for bow season, its gonna be a fun and tough year!

I put in a 2 acre plot last evening. I planted a mix of purple top turnip, raddish, clover mix, dwarf rape and sugar beets. Now I just need some rain to get it started. There was good moisture in the soil so it wont take a lot. I should of had this done a few weeks ago, but just too busy. I guess I will cross my fingers for plenty of rain and warm weather this Fall.
