GA can turn out some big bucks, but they are usually all from mid-south GA where all of the agriculture areas are. The places that I hunt is all thick woods, with no food plots or ag to speak of. All makes for fewer deer, more difficult to pattern, and smaller racks. Fortunately, this is not why I hunt as I enjoy being out in God's nature and seeing what I can see.

Tastes ,er, sounds good too me.
Just asked permission on a small 10 acre piece.
He he- hawed around but finally said ok.
It is surrounded by 300 acres of Very managed land.
Seen 2 GIANTS there last year late season.
Looking at an arial map, I can see 2 major deer trails crossing a swamp.
Looks like there are several big trees along those trails.

Gotta get on the rubber boots n take a hike.

2, 15 year old kids will be coming to bear hunt Sunday along with a lady I just met.
Lottsa real big bear this year.

I’m ok with any team name or Captain. I like the Bow Derelicts. Since Bo has sort of a melancholy look on her face in that pic you could even add a caption with her saying “He picked being in a tree over me”.

And since nobody is jumping at the chance to be captain, I'll go ahead and do it. I will pm our final three to check in. If everyone is good with the team name just say so.

And after being a little nosey in the other team threads.. I think we really stand a good chance this year. I'm not taking a doe this year but I am taking two bucks.

The wife is taking her family down to the lake this weekend and I am working out at the farm to finish all my preparations. I have a few more cameras and stands to hang.

Last night My brother and I did a 3 1/2 mile scout trip in a new public land swamp we’re thinking of hunting. Found a couple islands with bedding all around. Tough to get in there but there is lots of big buck sign. Probably throw a early-season hunt or 2 at the area and see what happens. September 28 is the opener in Ohio.

Yes, but only about 10 inches or so deep. I find that putting in the time for scouting helps get me in the right frame of mind for deer season. Shooting my bow only does so much for me. We’re going to take kayaks and check out another public land area along a river where we turkey hunted this spring. My brother is my lifelong hunting partner and he’s into it as much as me so that’s helpful. We’re 37, 38 years old and taking advantage of the single life. I should also say that it’s only been the last couple years that we’ve really got into hunting public land, Hunting mobile, and spending a lot more time scouting.

    Excellent!
25 years ago or so, I hunted a public piece of about 600 acres. Found a few small islands but need chest waders to get to them.
Tried to get to one in the a.m. dark during a massive snowstorm/ blizzard. Plowing my way through cattails over my head. Hit a beaver runway and went up to my chin filling the waders. It was ALL I had to get back to my truck. Nother 100 yards and I honestly don't think I would have made it.

    It was below zero temps.
Last time I tried that ****e!

October 1st is the opener in Oklahoma but I rarely hunt the first couple of weeks, more glassing from a distance and patterning. We can still have 80-90° days at that time of year and it's been my experience that all you do is educate the herd. I am heading out to New Mexico on October 18th through the 26th for Elk hunting with the boomstick. I have a muley tag too so the freezer will hopefully be packed this year. Hunting unit 12 around Fence Lake which is sagebrush country, the tastiest animals you'll ever eat.

It's the unit my dad drew this year. I just ended up buying a tag from an outfitter so I could go with my dad. It is a good unit though, known for some big ones. The outfitter is pretty well known with a solid reputation so we shall see.
