Got my cams out, 3 stands hung, and another tree prepped for a climber. Got a group of doe, bachelor bucks, and a couple bear. Getting the itch.
I for one am tired of this hot weather. I think we are going to be roofing well into December. I have plans to plant food plots on September 7th but may just bump that up to labor day weekend.
I'm way over this heat. Looks like there is some relief coming the first of September though. We are going to hang stands this weekend. Hopefully we get a few big bucks showing up soon.
Not to brag but... I have had quite a few new bucks show up this last week and a couple of really nice ones
Bob, if I put out an ounce of corn or minerals to get some pics of deer, the bear find it quicker and stay longer. It's tough to do summer scouting because the bear are everywhere.
And how is this a problem!? Lol. Those bears haven't made it to central Oklahoma yet. Just out of curiosity, do the bears keep the the deer away?
Haha its not a bad problem to have, I enjoy bear hunting but they're just thick where we hunt. Generally by November the bear slow down and aren't as active and deer continue business as usual. During summer and early season they can keep mature bucks nocturnal and away from active bear areas.
Immature acorns are dropping like crazy, I'm guessing the stress of July and August has caught up with the overproduction due to the rains in May and June. This could be a good thing if you have a lot of food plots or at least get them out of the woods earlier.
I'm sure they are on my lease as well. I didn't want to walk through chiggers until it was brush hogged though lol. I should have two bucks over 140 one pushing 150 then 3-4 in the 120-130 range. This weekend I'll start pouring out yellow acorns and see what shows up.
So a little story for the picture. Last December, my uncle found a shed with a piece of skull plate attached. I think it got knocked of during a fight but I can’t say for sure. Anyway, I’ve heard that when that happens, that side is always messed up from that point on. I guess it’s true!
That's pretty wild. He's going to be pretty on one side. I shot one in the shoulder last year. I'm expecting his left side to be pretty messed up this year like that one.
Well, y'all getting any rain!? When is everybody planting plots? I am planning on planting September 7th. Triticale, winter peas and turnips and that is it. Hoping my clover rebounds, July was rough on it. 000
My clover got drilled by the heat. I've got a winter greens mix from Imperial Whitetail. Hoping to plant within next couple weeks.
Glad to know I wasn't the only one. I pulled back my thatch layer and I have green shoots starting back but I am going to run my disk over it with the gangs set straight and overseed a little more ladino clover. Btw, I did seed an annual clover last year, Blackhawk arrowleaf clover, they beat it up pretty good and I am hoping that it reseeded itself, with these rains I should be able to tell in a couple of days.
