Did you ever notice any kind of injury with this buck? He may have just gotten hurt this year which caused him to form like that early on. I've seen pics of bucks where they make really good recoveries and end up growing nice anlters years afterwards. Unique to say the the least and would make for a cool mount!
If he shows up, you get excited and our pulse elevates....... shoot him. If he shows up and your first instinct is anything but reaching for your bow, don't. Don't worry about what we'd do. Do what's exciting for you. Best of luck!
You should do what feels good for you. Me.. I'm a meat hunter , if he's real young or even real old no . That said I get up to 6 doe tags a year. Even with that if the doe stay nocturnal all season and times running out I'll take a young buck. My only shots last year were a huge doe and a 5 pt buck.
Shoot what makes you happy. I probably would depends what other bucks I have in the area. Is he injured or just always been a goofy rack buck?
I would shoot because you can't eat antlers...besides that he is very unusual and its interesting to see, so yes I would definitely shoot.
im kinda leaning toward yes as well, think it would be a unique mount.. as to if he was injured, he doesnt limp or have any dissernable damage, cant tell if this is genetics or damage.. if i had him on camera last year ; he had a normal rack. this is the first year of fluffy (named by my 3 year old) on camera. By the size of his rack/body im guessing hes 3-4. as racks grow i expect to have plenty of other 120+ bucks on camera. i did last year, this is my second year on my land. my freezer is still fairly full from last year. ( i got 2) and a bunch of hogs. i get a bunch of doe tags.. so i dont shoot bucks for meat.. i mean i do.. but if i need meat ill take a lone doe, not a small buck. thanks for all your input.. as his rack keeps growing ill keep posting pics of how he turns out.
I agree with the others, if you would be pleased to get that deer than who cares what anyone else thinks. Everyone hunts with different standards, some want a minimum 150" (or whatever their personal goal is), some just want meat, some want to escape reality for a while, and some love unique racks. I personally find a mature whitetail buck to be very satisfying and exciting to harvest, yet like to always put a deer in the freezer too. I also just love being in the woods. With only one deer tag and a generous season this results in my holding out for a mature buck until the last week of the season or so, and then I'll either take a doe or a cull type buck...or eat tag soup.
I know it’s already been said but that question has to answered by you. Whatever makes the hunt exciting while staying ethical is all that matters. For me he may become a target on some sits but may not on others, I also only have 1 buck tag annually. Good luck have a great season!
Yes, shoot him. Unless you only have 1 buck tag and you want to be selective. No reason not to shoot him. I like character in a rack just as much as size.
